Medical Volunteer

I found some information about at our Hillel at the University of Arizona in Tucson and thought that you might be able to advise me. I am a pre-med student and am looking to volunteer in an overseas medical clinic this summer. I am seeking for a challenging location where I could help underprivileged people. Do you have any ideas?

What a wonderful idea and a meaningful way to spend your summer vacation.

I think the best place to volunteer is in Israel. It promises to be a highly rewarding experience for you, and Israel always needs extra help.

Most hospitals have a volunteer program, and you can try contacting them directly. A listing of Israeli hospitals is at

If you want to be in Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world, the two biggest hospitals are Shaare Tzedek ( and Haddassah (

You can also try an emergency services organization called Hatzola (, and Yad Sarah, a medical services group (
