conspiracys and such
Yes, Iraq HAD a WMD program. Israel nipped it in the bud by bombing it's nuclear production site. They will never find WMDs because they simply don't exist. What htey have found is a country of people who will eventually elect a similarly ruthless dictator, perhaps one worse than Saddam. All one needs to look at is the Palestnian's election of Hamas to power to see where free elections will take the Iraqis.
The people with conspiracy theories whether they are Right, Left or Center are nuts... And equal numbers of these nuts can be found on either side.
The Rabbi is right. A man in the public eye who shoots his friend accidentally should own up everyone that he did a bad thing and that perhaps those people who are anti-gun have their reasons considering the likelihood of such accidents. WHat if he had shot a child? What if his unintended victim had died? Those are very likely scenarios. Children and other innocent bystanders are shot everyday
This should extend to everything that our elected representatives do. When they make mistakes instead of hiding them, lying, witholding or making excuses they owe us a "We did bad, sorry, we'll try and not make the same mistake twice". Instead they assume we're stupid and that they can lie and insult our intelligence all they want while claiming the moral high ground.

Pathetic excuse for nonsense
Iran is clearly developing nuclear weapons; a former Sadam general says he helped hide WMD before our invasion; muslims are burning sovereign property over freedom of press issues; Democrats call our President a terrorist; and you excuse making such a big deal over an accident? Don't you get they don't see it as an accident? Dem blogs are full of conspiracy theories that this was meant to shut up Scooter Libby? That Cheney is in fact evil? Such a good a loyal friend of Israel deserves better treatment from those enjoying his protection.

If the media's posture was, "We need you Jews and moral gentiles to be our role models; please do a better job", then I'd have no problem. But I think it's clear that the criticism is meant to discredit Jewish and Jewish-inspired morality; we have every right (and probably an obligation)to publicly point out the double standard, for the ske of those who's minds are still open.

I agree
I wholeheartedly agree with Rabbi Salomom. There is only one person with greater "visibility" than the Vice President--the President himself. As to Mr. Cheney, had he simply made a statement at the time of the accident, it is likely that, aside from the inevitable night-show wise cracks, little, if any, comments would have occured. It was news, of course, but I doubt if it would have created the uproar that ensued because of what appeared to be a cover-up. The current administration has yet to learn that simple, straightforward honesty is still "the best policy."

No Double Standards
As to Dick Cheney's week in the limelight, I think he did the best that could be done especially taking into account that his first thoughts were about the health of his friend and particularly getting him to a hospital in a timely manner! As to the media, they had a story of greater value in Al Gore's speech at the Arab Economic Conference in Dubai but that was covered only by the conservative media and bloggers, AND NOT BY THE MSM. That's the real story. The MSM, especially the White House Press Corps, is beneath contempt and even David Gregory admitted this with his apology this morning on the Chris Mathews Show.
