This was timely for me. My employer just asked me to start taking care of her receipts for meal and travel expenses. She said if she forgets to write the client's name on the receipt, I should put any client's name in, "it doesn't matter." But what do I do if I know there was no client involved? And isn't putting any client's name lying? I know this isn't an example of lying *to* someone, but it's not the truth, either. It's causing me some moral difficulty. Should it?

Cant'get the video , but...
Truth should be tempered with tact. My friend's new decor is all pink & frilly & flowery-not my taste at all-but I said honestly that it was really pretty & fresh & so on. I don't mean that one should be mealy-mouthed or false to one's principles, just combine honesty with sensitivity ! It's hard when someone tells you that they have done something dishonest or immoral. If they invite comment, I say that I wouldn't feel right doing it but they must make up their own mind. Okay, I sometimes take refuge in cowardly silence or-worse-laugh.Often (or even usually) when someone asks for your honest opinion, they don't really want it, they want to feel justified & want you to make them feel justified !
