What a great way to remember a very important principle! I've never thought of replacing thoughts of pride with those of pleasure.

Always Interesting

Perhaps not my favourite "Lori video," but still very interesting to watch and listen. Truly a natural great speaker.

Simple, direct and to the point.

This was probably the best advice I have heard in a long time. My children do have many life accomplishments and I have taken pleasure in seeing them grow. It helps me to not live through them, just be happy for them.

Why I am Pro-Lori

I like Lori so much; she has me in the grip of her fan club. Even though I'm still not married, because nobody wants to let me marry them because...well, because of how bad I am; still, when I listen to Lori and look on as she delivers her inspiring and well reasoned drash of musar, I'm overcome with a feeling of faith and trust in the A-lmighty and a sense of the truth of our special destiny as Jews, to uphold the holy Torah with all our might. Lori, you should be gebencht.

This is brilliant. Thanks! I would be interested in what thoughts or behaviors are pride and arrogance versus pleasure. It seems that there is such a fine line. Often times, I find myself thinking about what you say all week, coming back and listening a second or third time, picking up things I didn't hear the first time.

Excellent article but I question one word

I'm not sure if the word "Pleasure" is the right word. A person should be able to be proud of his or her accomplishments not because they should be arrogant but because they were able to take the keilim given to them by HaShem and use them well. Maybe proud is not the right word either but there has to be another word besides pleasure.
P.S. If possible, I would like to ask Mrs. Palatnick for her advice on a family problem. Is this possible?

Excellent, but slightly disagree

Mrs Palatnik's comments were very on target, but I feel a distinction needs to be made between pride and arrogance. I believe pride can be an aspect of self-esteem - in the example of the boy hockey player, the boy was not being arrogant about his abilities he was being proud of them, i.e. having self-esteem to know that he has those talents. That doesn't mean that he doesn't attribute those talents to G-d, and believes he is the source of them, which, of course, is synonomous with, and is the root of, arrogance. So, same message, slight disagreement in terminology.
