Does the diet work?
I have heard Harvey's commercials on the radio quite a bit. I was wondering the cost of his program if I choose to go. I don't have a lot of money to throw out on these diet programs so I want the breakdown of the cost to go and see fore myself whether he's worth going to see or not. There are lots of diet programs I am sure that cost less to go to, but I do want to see if Harvey Brooker is a better choice for me. I am a 48 waist size I was once a 36 waist size. When I was younger in my teens there wasn't as many fast food places like their is today. I find alot of fat people at buffets and think to myself they need help.I am curious of this diet program. What does it consist of? What type's of food does one eat ? There are so many questions to ask...

Maybe I'll call him too. Thank you.
Maybe I will give this man a call too.
Stop the hysteria. Stop hating fat people. Good bad is more important than fat thin. The 1st generation to the US overeat because they are finally not hungry. Then they wake up, like Michael Savage. Also the people who are arriving have a different body type than the people here. I do not believe charts just keep going upwards.
TV, video games are bad for health of children.
I think people at schools who arrange walking for people who want to walk safely to school and back is a great idea. It is sad to see legions of cars picking up students who live 5 mins from school. Parents are terrified of their kids being late to school. It is bad for the health of the children, plus the times are earlier. Start schools later. Stop cutting PE and recess. Save a dog at the shelter and walk it 2x a day. Eat dinner with children.
Some fat on an older woman is good because the fat provides estrogen, and cushioning, and nature works hard at it, and it occurs in all nations.
I believe that we should avoid white sugar, flour, salt, but I am not a nut about it. (I have to buy sugar for the hummingbirds I feed.) I think if we avoid those, we are less hungry because our blood sugar does not rise and fall steeply, so if you do not like being hungry all the time, avoid them. Eat organic strawberries because such fruit is the highest absorber of pesticide. Avoid animal fat. Eat legumes. Use Earth Balance (U) with olive oil instead of butter. It is probably a good idea to avoid meat and milk from animals given hormones to gain weight.Fashion always wants the unusual. When people starved, the rich were fat, proud of it, in China, No America and Europe. Now that everyone in the US is satiated, now the unusual is thin so everyone wants that. Yes I see it as beautiful too. We all want to look like when we were 20 even though then we felt overweight.
Having torn my Achilles I think it is better to walk than run. Fight non labeled genetically altered food.

Wife of a Harvey Guy,

Yes, Harvey is wonderful
Congratulations to your husband! We are fortunate to live reasonably close to Harvey Brooker's clinic and my husband has lost 102 lbs in 8 months! His weight loss is vital to his health - he has a pacemaker/defibrillator. Like your husband, mine is happier, healthier, more energetic. An added, unexpected bonus is that intimancy more frequent and enjoyable! This does work, if my husband can actually do this, then anyone, with determination, can do this too! This lifestyle change works for men of all ethnicities and faiths. Like you said Lori, this is not a commercial - the men are testimony to how well this works. I also would like to say thank you to Harvey!

Hi, my name is Randy. I'm a cliant of Havey's here in Toronto. I have lost 110 lbs. in 7 months. You and your family are very lucky to able to get Havey's help. You husbands weight loss of 50 lbs. in 6 months is excellent. It really is a life style change. I eat to the point of no hunger and remain that way for the rest of the day. with the proper foods and Havey's guidance I have gone from 383.5 pounds down to 273 pounds in just 7 months and still have another 50 lbs. to go. I wish more people understood that at Brooker's you can loose the weight and keep it off. I now have energy in reserve to play with my 6 year old. as a mother you know the energy required to chase the midget around the house or play ground. May of 2010 I could not do that...it would have been imposible and was. The 1st time at Havey's you must walk up a stair case with 27 steps as there is no elevator and Havey is on the 2nd floor. As a fat man and that's what I'll always be, even though the rapper is thin those 27 steps every week just about killed me, my heart would beat like a rabbit. Now I just run up the stairs every week and do mean RUN!! I'm so happy for your husband's weight lost as well as the rest of your family and if you guys ever come to Toronto, you both, with out a dout would be welcome at a meeting I'm sure Havey would eco the same.
Thank you for your all most live message may-be we can get more men interested in changing there lives.

Harvey is the best
I received your link via Harvey Brooker. Everything that you mention is exactly what Harvey stands for. I was almost 300 lbs 2 years ago and I am happy to say that with Harvey's guidance I lost 85 pounds and, most importantly, kept it off. I too was on many diets and my weight careened out of control. Thanks to Harvey's inspiration through personal coaching I am now at 215 pounds and have been there for 8 months.
More importantly, my wife has benefitted from the program as well. She has lost 40lbs. My kids (5 and 2 year olds) are eating healthy food and choose it over the abundance of junk available out there.
Thank you for spreading the word. As Harvey says, "if you could do it alone, you would have done it already!"

Weight Loss Tips
I am not a nutritionist, but its not too hard to figure out the attributions to obesity. As someone who once was overweight, it took a lot of will power and major lifestyle changes to be in the shape that I am in today. Here are some of the tips that I used to lose weight:
1) Try to avoid buying processed foods as much as possible.Make everything from scratch.
2)Set at least 20 minutes a day for some physical activities.
3)Portion control - burn more calories than you consume.
4)http://www.sparkpeople.com/. Sign up and get started. That website will help achieve your weight loss goal by monitoring your intake of food.It will also give you exercise tips.
5) Don't eat past 7:30 p.m. during a weekday with the exception of attending a social affair such as a wedding, engagement, etc.
6) Don't mindlessly nosh.Eat only when you are hungry.

As a therapist in the New York area, I have, for over 26 years, assisted clients achieve their goals for a more healthy lifestyle ie. stop smoking, weight management, etc. Never using *diet*, (for the first three letters spell d-i-e) is an important step in establishing a proper mindset.
Telling someone (think children) that they can't have a cookie, (providing, of course, that they have already had "x" amount) only makes *that cookie* more desirable.
In addition to your mantra, I would add something that is the cornerstone of Yiddishkeit: Balance and Moderation.
Your husband, you, and your family are to be commended for this continued journey towards self-improvement.

the #1 New Years Resolution
I can't thank you enough for this message. It is truly food for the soul.
I'm a registered nurse who works in a community hospital. During my 25 years in health care I have had countless patients whose illnesses stemmed from overeating.
These self-inflicted, often fatal diseases include diabetes, stroke, heart disease, joint replacements and respiratory problems. Our children are also at risk as childhood obesity rate climbs. Overweight unhealthy kids grow up to become overweight unhealthy adults.
I pray that all who listen to your message begin 2011 resolving to join in the elimination of the disease of obesity.

Hashem in the picture
This was an inspirational message and I was really waiting for Lori to conclude with the fact that as thankful as she is to Harvey Brooker, we all know that he is simply a shaliach (a messenger) of Hashem. Our real strength and success always comes from Hashem. Of course, we put in our effort and we meet very important people along our life journey...we should be sure to say that deeply heartfelt thankyou to Hashem. I am also, like other listeners, interested in hearing about Mr. Brooker's methods - sounds great and we are so happy Rabbi Palatnik has been so successful!! Keep up the fantastic work!

Sound Mind/Sound Body and the reverse!
Hi Lori, This comes at an opporTUNE time as my husband has recognized the need to lose weight and keep off those pounds. Harvey Brooker sounds like he's right on track, and I will look him up on The Web. My husband exercises all the time by walking the beach with our two dogs, and he is an avid cross-country skier and does bicycle when he gets the chance. He's also a teacher, of Biology. Lately, in traveling so much to all day conferences, he has made a decision to arrive early so he can rent a bike and go out. He is also eating healthy foods, as dictated by my vegetarian daughter. I need to follow suit. What's good for him, is good for all of us!
Thank you! As I have said, I am going to look up Harvey!
January 11, 2011 4:45 PM
Thank You Lori
Well done. I might add to your mantras the following since in the last 7 or 8 years I have lost 70 pounds, first 40 then I put 30 back on and now I have lost that also. Also, my wife has lost 45 pounds and the difference in our lives is tremendous. I want to say and this comes from weight watchers, do it with somebody elsel; make food decisions together, cook together and spend quality time at the table. A few psalms with a meal once a week or oftener is a big plus.

Your Message Resonates With My New Lifestyle
With the help of Hashem, it took me several decades of being overweight to finally figure it out--how to improve my physical health, mental health, and, yes, appearance! Part of the impetus was the death of my husband of nearly 46 years. I didn't want to go the way he went, not that it's totally in my hands. The method was to find resources that made sense--books, persons-- encouraging and teaching me to eat healthy foods and exercise, thus enabling me to change my lifestyle (a daily effort). Now, I am an inspiration to my two baalot tshuvah daughters. They, in turn, inspire my spiritual thirst. We've got quite a relationship going! Bezrat Hashem, I will meet you at the TDSA honorees dinner in Atlanta in March, at which time you, bezrat Hashem, will be live, not almost live. :) It will be my honor to drive you to or from the airport, if someone hasn't already arranged to be so honored. Lastly, I would appreciate your giving thought and commentary to the issue of remarriage, particularly of older persons--a how-to manual, if you will. May Hashem bless you for your talk on lifestyle change. May your husband live to be 120. May your family continue to thrive. Your admirer, Carole

where do I find this diet
January 11, 2011 2:09 PM
I lost 75 lbs. and it changed my life as well. I always walked around in a fog, that is, when I did walk outside because I became a hermit out of embarrassment. I didn't go to shul out of embarrassment. After 5 months I broke out of my "cocoon" and loved my life! I started going weekly to shul , started volunteering, and loved the complements, even if aquiantences passed right by me because they no longer recognized me! My self-esteem grew by leaps and bounds. I've kept it off for 2 1/2 years now and vow never to go back to my old self. Thank you Lori for another inspiring video. We miss you in Toronto!

I need to change my life
Could you please give me Harvey Brooker's phone number. I need to lose weight and change my life desperately
January 11, 2011 1:36 PM
You don't need Harvey Brooker
The mantra Lori spoke of could have come from Weight Watchers. For those of you trying to lose weight, try your local WW meeting - the new points plus system is exactly what Lori is talking about. Eat good food. Never go hungry.

January 9, 2011 8:31 AM
So happy for you
I am so happy for you and your family that your husband lost weight and he is now healthier and happier. I lost 40 pounds about 8 years ago and, Baruch Hashem, kept it off. My dietician also had similar Mantras. It really worked. May you and your family live long and happy lives.
