What if HaShem ask: did you see Florianópolis?
I loved this video. I've just moved from a "not so beautiful" city to the most beautiful city in Brazil and I can´t stop thinking about the wonders God created. I live in front of the sea... There are forests all around me... The brazilian blue sky... the birds... It's amazing. I plan to visit the US and Israel in the near future but I'd like to see a lot of this wonderful planet God has given us.

God is awesome!
We have been blessed to go to Hawaii twice. Once to Maui and once to Kauai & Oahu. The most beautiful places I have seen so far. We live in the desert southwest, but even here we see the hand of The Creator if we only take the time to look!

rav wolbe was told this story (about the alps) and he responded "chos vesholom" that anyone would need to leave Eretz Yisroel to find a beautiful scenery. Great video!

VERY interestering speech
Hawaii is AMAZING. I have been there and never forgot it. Sometime, try the island of Kauai, it's awesome! Anyway, I DO love beauty, can't help it and I get a real lift when I see our own country of Israel getting more and more beautiful. The new Mamilla complex in Jerusalem is a real additon and now they are putting in the Waldorf Astoria right near the old city. It's in an old building that is being majorly renovated and it's going to be spectacular! Naturally, our devotion to Hashem IS the most important thing, not beauty, but HE also did create beauty so why not appreciate it? Israel has the talent, it's now up to us to make the country beautiful!

G_d reveals his presence in the beauty of our world.
The "Garden Island" Kaui is my favorite in Hawaii. I have been moved many times just walking along the beach or planting a coco palm in the soil and returning a year or two later to find a full grown tree. Truly an amazing place. Let us keep it that way. There is beauty everywhere you go, sometimes we just have to look a little more closely.

God's Beautiful World
When I talk with mom about God, she tells me, "I don't want to hear about religion!" I tell her, "Mom, look around you. Don't you see God's hand in His creation? That's not religion. God's not religion, He's life, He's creation." I see and enjoy God's creation and presence everyday. One day He'll dwell on earth, in Jerusalem. Until that day, I see and enjoy His handiwork, His creation. Next year in Jerusalem. Thank you Lori.

The Natural World
God created it for me. Freely. Even the 'abject poverty stricken' (our words) can enjoy the beauty on the Islands or in Rain Forests or in the Deserts. It's everywhere. Some of us find natural beauty from a mountain top vista, or in a simple backyard. It's ours to enjoy for free. What a shame that the last of his natural worlds have become tourist destinations with roads, sewers, and garbage to accomodate our travels.

Can't Have Your Cake and Eat it Too
First of all, I believe the Rabbi of the story is Rabbi Samson Rafael Hirsch of Germany.
Secondly the reason Torah Jews don't live in those places is BECAUSE they are so beautiful. I remember learning somewhere that where there is physical beauty there is no spiritual "beauty." One of the sages in the Talmud commented that had one of the other sages been ugly (as this one was), he would have been that much wiser. (Wine kept bin golden containers spoil, while wine stored in earthenware jugs does not!)
Lastly one must learn to appreciate the beauty wherever HaShem placed him. Wishing we were on overlooking warm sunny beaches and blue oceans, questions to some degree the Devine plan, no?

Sorry, I totally disagree with you.
There is nothing wrong with beauty

Nothing Wrong With Beauty
I can't agree with you more. You are 100% correct. Nothing wrong with it at all. And one could, should, even must appreciate all the beauty in the world. It is, after all, the physical expression of the will of HaShem in this world. Every creature, every tissue of every living thing, every molecule and atom in the world is nothing less than the physical expression of HaShem's Torah and ultimately His will. However, when it is appreciated for its own sake and not as an expression of His will, and not seen as ways to relate to Him, and to "know" Him, all its spirituality and true value, purpose, and meaning has been removed from it. It would be like calling a beautiful chair a piece of wood, or like evaluating the worth of human based on the market value of the chemical compounds of which he is made. The total individual value of all the parts of a car is a fraction of the value of the car itself. To the extant we see physical beauty we diminish the true value of the physical world. The Ramban says that nature is really simply hidden miracles. Miracles are not beauty or beautiful per say. They are deep deep spiritual truths and revelations. I hope that makes my point a bit more clear.
And, at the end of the day, the statement of the Talmud I quoted in the original post, that the less beautiful vessel is more appropriate to hold within it the wisdom of the Torah, will not go away. It requires an explanation. I think my last two posts provides a starting place for that.
