It's also not linear
Based on Scott peck's follow up work it is also not linear, to think once you get to performing that you will never end up back in storming is short sighted. He refers to storming as Chaos and the performing stage a community. The difference is that chaos is about un-managed conflict and when you are truly in community you get that conflict is not personal or emotional and that you have tools to deal with the conflict.
