it's easier said than done

i think that most of people who write "do not have fatty snacks in your house" are not overweight. it's not easy to lose extra kilos, and i think that the key is to love yourself. it's not easy if you didn't do it before, it's even harder if you did look after yourself before, but lost the habit. by the way i don't have any ice-cream or cola in the house, so don't judge people just because they are big that fast. not every skinny person is healthy. One more thing: how often does Karen thinks one should fast? I wonder how just fasting without any reason is seen? it's a great topic to discuss, just be careful with the advice you put on your web site, or put comments next to it.

How I lost weight

I have had a weight problem since I was 11 years old. Around 4 years ago I went to a nutritionist and that has been the only eating plan that has ever worked for me. I can eat anything I want as long as I respect the portions and the balance of carbohidrates, proteins and fruits that are okay for my body type. My idea to share is to seek help from a nutritionist. They know how to feed you well while you lose weight and it is amazing all the food that you can eat and still lose. In short, they teach you how to eat correctly without depriving yourself.

Ideas...

One idea: when you just can't control yourself, pray - ask Hashem for help.

Second Idea: I have this monster who tells me "you deserve this chocolate now," "you're too stressed out to be on a diet at this moment - check out the freezer you'll feel better," "eat lots of goodies tonight cause tomorrow you're REALLY going on a diet," "now it's a time to celebrate, no restraint now"... and because of this monster's ideas I end up remaining overweight, miserable and feeling like food is controlling my time and emotions! So I tell "him" I'm not listening to you. "You" will not convince me for just a few moments (seconds?) of enjoyment to go and eat. I have better judgment than that. Instead I will eat healthy and save the treats for just once a week – Shabbos.

This has been working for me. Besides for being in control and loosing weight, I'm not thinking all day "what should I eat now, I wish I can just have only one…"

Thank you!

R. Salomon does a great service to the Jewish community by discussing the underlying factors of cardio-vascular disease and also about resolving to improve our health. Thanks for this and all the insightful discussions. (I am a big fan, whatever the topic.)
