God of the gaps
The rabbi's final comments are a phenomenal non-sequiter. The fact that we lack enough information and knowledge to explain something does not mean that God caused it. This turns God into a God of the gaps. Rabbi, when someone develops a more precise method of predicting the weather, will you become an athiest? Your comments imply that you will.

Why go as far as the weather to claim that G-d runs the world, after all?
I think there's a much better and more universal example: Mortality. No matter how much scientists and geneticists try to make IMMORTALITY a possibility, it evades us.
Nothing and no one lasts forever, besides HaShem Alone!
- Something to think about......

In response to Kate; Isn't that what the Rabbi said, that God really does run the world (not only the weather). The ultimate consolation is that fact alone. Everything is ordained from heaven, and a person doesn't even bang him finger unless it is decreed. Start with the weather, and belief and faith in God will spread to the rest of life. Aish.com did not ignore this issue but did feature an excellent Jerusalem Post article on this weeks website.
God runs the world. That's really something to think about.

I don't know if right now predicting the weather is a good way to tell if G-d is running the world or not - we're only however long before we indeed figure out how to accurately predict or even manipulate the weather. After all, some years ago you could have said the same thing about cloning and measuring the width of galaxies millions of light years away. I think there are plenty of indicators that G-d runs the world that don't even have to have anything to do with the state of our knowledge of the workings of the universe. Surely we can come up with something else ? (I myself can't think of any at the moment, I have to get ready for work. :)).

How about words to console a Jewish mourning mother
In memory of Ilan Halimi, 23, a young Jew who died this week in Paris. Ilan was held and subjected to horrific tortures for three weeks before his naked and mutilated body was dumped in the street near a suburban train station outside Paris, France on Monday. Handcuffed, gagged and covered in burns and torture marks, he died on the way to hospital.
