Elsewhere I have said to one who hates, "At this ancient point in my life, I'm inclined to believe anti-Semitism a form of mental illness indicative of undefined or imperfectly detected underlying personal issues or social processes having maladaptive psychological effects." There is in the world a kind of fulcrum operated by goodness, and where Jews have been welcomed or taken in, others and other positive functioning in societies have done well. The militant Islamist Front and the freight it carries, including its sustaining Muhammad's pigs-and-monkeys attitude toward Jews, have not done so well. They're mired in conflict and deservedly hated by those they would claim their own. They may blame their setbacks on Americans, Israelis, and Danish cartoonists, but they cannot correct their course through literal adherence to their cultural technology or narrow-minded and self-serving chauvanism. It's not what The Books--any of them--might have to say that has made a difference for Jews and others, but rather the manner of reading, the habit of looking forward through reading rather than backwards, and above all reading -- thinking -- with a generous and universal nature.

Irrelevant
It's irrelevant whether we forgive these terrorists or not. We are not the ones consumed with hate and have not asked for our forgiveness. Rather, I concur with Rabbi Salamon's point: to take this horrific act-in-the-making and see it as a reminder that what separates us from them is our adherence to G-d's Word--the Torah.

Muslim Bronx Bombers Strike Out
The Muslim Bronx Bombers were all violent Jihadist Muslims, two of which were converted to Islam in our U.S. Prison system. Islam has been around for only 1400 years. Political Islam and Muslims do not HATE the Jews and Christians, in fact it''s just the opposite. Mohammad decreed Jews and Christians as "People of the Book" and held them above other idol worshipping and secular governments.
The Islamist world view is very simple Dar al-Harb and Dar al-Islam - House of War and House of Islam. Every human on earth is in one camp *or* the other. That is the way it is dictated in the Qur''an and Sunnah by Allah himself - to be a good Muslim you must believe that the Qur''an is "God" inspired while every other religion, government, etc.. is fatally flawed and corrupted by man.
So when you seen Islamists behaving violently - don''t be amazed, shocked, and say to your whiney self - what have I DONE to make them hate me. These are simply GOOD Muslims following what is in the Qur''an and Sunnah.
Islam is just being Islam - The question is why do we allow them to kill, murder, and maim all who do not follow their political doctrine. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for letting it happen.

Anger & Hatred: Remedy is Forgiveness?
I think anger is a symptom of not feeling like you've had your voice validated, hatred is the arrogance of thinking your voice is superior to those who are different. On Shavuot we have the word of God validated for us through Torah, so in that sense our voices unite. If the Jewish people are united through Torah what unites terrorists? Hate. How do we diffuse hate? Forgiveness. My mother had a saying - 'Ash, when you forgive, you SOAR. When you fail to forgive, you're SORE'. Is hatred a kind of sore? Yes. are terrorists comfortable with their sores? Uh huh. When you are sore, you are in pain. When in pain you are vulnerable. When vulnerable you can't be responsible. Will forgiving terrorists make them responsible? Probably. Why? Because if hatred is the arrogance of thinking your voice is superior to those who are different, can that difference be countered with the words 'I forgive you'? How can you think your voice is superior when you receive forgiveness from those who you think you're superior to? Am I making any sense at all?

when anti-Semites show their true colors
When anti-Semites show their true colors, it can be easier to make a disposition on where they stand such as certain Christians who come clean and say "convert or die" or Arab-Muslims coming clean saying "death to all Jews". Historically, retaliation and resilience is the miracle of why the Jews are still around today, as well as how G-d promised that He would NEVER leave the Jews behind.

Although there is what to be jealous of!
Like you said, they want darkness. That's the truth. I HATE it when people say that the non-Jewish nations are just "jealous" deep down that we have the Torah and Shabbos. No, they are absolutely NOT jealous of our Torah and they we wouldn't want to keep our Shabbos. Rather it's like you said...they just want a world of darkness.

anti-semitism is a tool in the hands of Hashem, to wake us up. Historically, the rise of anti-semitism always comes in direct proportion to the casting off of the Torah and mitzvos, assimilation, etc.(as it is now). The famous sage called the Netziv )gave a famous parable about anti-semitism: when a man is hitting a dog with a stick, what does the dog do? He tries to bite the stick, not realizing it is the man doing the hitting..trying to fight anti-semitism rationally is like the dog trying to bite the stick, when it is Hashem wielding it. Also, read the portions in the Torah called the Tochacha, where Hashem outlines the punishments that will befall the Jewish people if they cast off the yoke of Torah.. it's uncanny how every single detail has come true.. the only solution is to return to the Torah and mitzvohs with all our ability--only this will save us.

On "Sinai"
I found what you had to say about the word itself, Sinai, and its close aural relationship to another word, hatred, is very significant. I could also point out that in English we have the aural equivalence: Sign and I. Sinai was a most visible sign to the world and it continues, namely the giving of the Torah. I can go further with word deconstruction and I am saying there is a very significant relationship between the events in this world and the words themselves, that designate these events. Perhaps the world was significantly constructed in this way, and that this story, about all of us, is constructed to bring us forward in a soul journey, towards peace and unity within diversity. I sincerely hope so, because terrorism has within it the error of its ways. This story winds its way, like smoke, through history, and must resolve in peace, compassion and love. Because at its deepest levels, this is a Love story.

As some one noted: The National Association of Muslim American Women (NAMAW) says it was all a frame-up: the diabolical FBI first persuaded these innocent Muslims that their religion mandated violence against unbelievers, and then involved them in this plot to blow up synagogues. Well, that makes sense. After all, who ever heard of a Muslim arriving on his own accord at the idea that his religion teaches violence against unbelievers? Appropo the false account that was published by Hamed Hasan's muslim account- this taqquiya- is a muslim concept. It's called lying to infidels. It also means lying to them, but then when they cut off people's heads, the rational is it was all for a grand godly cause. Another thing that disturbs me: my two posts- somewhat long, which addressed this factually incorrect assertion about Hudabiya, and Islamic peacefulness by that poster. My posts weren't put up but his was..... That's not much of the spirit of Shavuous, and does not bode well for those who deny the right to be heard.

The Need for Education
All the above comments have one thing in common, it's the explaining of the hatred of the Jews and other religions by the Muslims, and this has a very simple explanation - EDUCATION - let's take a look at what teachers teach in Muslim countries to their kids in school, and second, let's take a look at the sermons that Muslims hear in their mosques every Friday. It starts with the indoctrination of hatred in the kindergarten and continues through high school in Muslim countries, they teach hatred at their schools, and as they say, you reap what you sow, you sow hatred you reap hatred, it's very simple. Let's keep in mind that the vast majority of Muslims go to the mosque every Friday, and thus listening to a sermon filled with hatred and ugliness, after a while any person will start believing what they hear, especially if it's repeated enough times. So in order to break out of the cycle of violence they need to start to educate their children against violence, and they need to talk to the people in their mosques against violence, and stop the sermons of hate they have every week, by calling the Jews and others, pigs, monkeys, infidels, and so on, because until this type of rhetoric is not calmed down, we will continue to have problems with the muslim world.

Terrorism will persist in one form or another .
The big question on everyone's mind is how to solve the problem of terrorism. On the one hand, the authorities are trying to crush the terror menace through legal action, and on the other hand, reformers are trying to curb it by engaging in condemnation. However, both of these methods are, apparently, proving to be ineffective. Then what is the solution? The present problem of terrorism is based on an ideology and that cannot be countered or killed through legal action or by mere condemnation. We have to develop a counter-ideology to overcome it. Violence begins from the mind. It must, therefore, be uprooted from the mind itself. This goes directly to the root cause of terrorism. Therefore, in order to eliminate this root cause we need to initiate our efforts by beginning from the right starting point. And this is the re-engineering of minds of individuals by taking them away from the culture of violence and bringing them closer to the culture of peace. Let's look at two parallel examples from history. One pertains to the American campaign against communist Russia and the other refers to the American campaign against Saddam-led Iraq. Both communist Russia and Iraq were declared enemies of the US, but while America was successful in curbing the menace of communist Russia, it failed to cope with Iraq. The reason was that America met the Russian challenge at an ideological level, while it opted for military action against Iraq. Terrorism will persist in one form or another until the ideology of violence is countered with another ideology based on peace. But let us first understand the ideology of violence that is resulting in terrorism. This ideology is that Islam is a political system and that it is the duty of all Muslims to establish the political rule of Islam in the world. This kind of thinking was not prevalent during the time of Prophet Muhammad or his early companions. It is a later invention. This was developed over the last few centuries by a handful of people and has become widespread in the Muslim world today. This has led to the present-day violence. A large number of Muslims, especially many among the youth, have become obsessed with this ideology and are trying to establish the political rule of Islam, thinking it to be their ticket to paradise. Having failed to achieve this objective of establishing Islamic rule by peaceful methods, they have started resorting to suicide bombing. The idea being that if we cannot eliminate non-Islamic rule, then let us at least destabilise it and pave the way for Islamic rule. After studying Islam by making reference to its original sources the Quran and Hadith one can say with certainty that the political interpretation of Islam is an innovation and the real Islam, as followed by Prophet Muhammad and his early followers, is based upon peace, compassion and tolerance. People consider peace as the greatest good in the world. However, peace does not prevail in the world today. This is because people the world over are acting intolerantly and indulging in acts of violence, saying, "Give us justice and peace will ensue". But when people, ostensibly seeking justice, stoop to violence, peace can never prevail. Peace is always desirable for its own sake, and every other desirable state comes after peace, not along with it. So, the maxim to follow, when peace is the desired state, is: "Ignore the problems, and avail of the opportunities." Once people become tolerant and obtain peace for its own sake, what that actually does is open up opportunities. It creates favourable conditions which enable people to strive for their ideals, eventually attaining justice and other constructive ends. This happens due to the law of nature. When the individual refrains from making a controversial matter into one of prestige, this gives rise to serious thinking. This non-emotional thinking helps him to understand that if he were to walk out of the point of controversy he would find all other paths open to him. This ideology of peace can counter the ideology of violence and it is based on the original sources of Islam. Prophet Muhammad provides a very clear historical example of this in his method of negotiating the Hudaybiyya peace treaty. On this occasion he brought matters to a successful conclusion by unilaterally accepting all the conditions of his opponents. In this peace treaty, the Prophet had not apparently received justice or his rights. But what was in effect a 10-year no-war pact gave the Prophet an opportunity to work uninterruptedly on a constructive programme which would otherwise have been impossible. By means of this peaceful non-political programme, the Prophet and his companions were able to consolidate themselves so thoroughly that they had no need to wage war, they were able to take control of Mecca peacefully. From this example of the Prophet, we can understand that there is no room for violence in Islam. The ideology of Islam banishes the notion that there can be anything acceptable about terrorism. Islam is a completely peaceful religion and the Islamic method is a peaceful method. By following the ideology of peace, each individual's mind can be re-engineered away from the culture of violence and closer to the culture of peace.
