Insane world

Rabbi Avigdor Miller A"H said 40 years ago before you leave your house in the morning pause and day to yourself "I am going out into an insane asylum." It is much worse now.

freeing prisoners

my feeling is that any terrorist who kills an Israeli should not be released

(34) Mati, August 27, 2013 12:12 PM

What I learned as a youth about bullies...

.....is that no matter what you do to try to make them your friend...be nice...give them gifts...do them favors....they wil still beat you up in the public eye (their friends and those they want to impress. Israel, grow up!

(33) jools, August 25, 2013 4:27 AM

what are they imprisoned for?

How many of the released prisoners have actually committed violent acts against Jews?

Dvirah, November 5, 2013 7:43 PM

In Reply

ALL of them!!!

(32) Anonymous, August 24, 2013 6:13 AM

Israel's responsibility to not release prisoners and who cares about scandinavians?

The first one to blame is the Israeli government who releases those murderers after having feeding them their own dishes, granting studying and degrees, granting family and marital visits.
All that, to bring them to negotiations, to ask them to accept the land that europe and america has decided to give. Why are the talks with palestinians behind closed doors? Why are there no protests for releasing murderers and for not knowing what is going on during those talks and only when it will end, then Israelis will face a fait accompli. The Israeli government does not show any respect for itself or for Israelis by always behaving like good children who obey their parents. we do not owe that to anybody, quite the contrary. It is great time to straighten up the backbone and not beg for sympathy or understanding. Israel will get respect when Israelis will make their own decisions in the best interest of Israel first and foremost. Same goes for the Jews anywhere. Why so much talk about Andres Breivik? the 2 situations are so different. we do not need their problem to validate our outrage at the release of the murderers whether scandinavians approve or not. who is asking them?

(31) Anonymous, August 23, 2013 11:37 AM

No

Releasing terrorism was done by Israeli government not any other government.Israeli government is admitting that they were prisoner of war. Israel's government should explain their release to their own people. Murderer release is not right.

(30) Sanford "Sandy") & Chana Goodman, August 23, 2013 5:01 AM

Both the “Palestinian” terrorists and Andres Breivik are murderers! Period!

The “Palestinian” terrorists are no more freedom fighters then was Andres Breivik. Both are guilty of first degree murder because they deliberately attacked and massacred innocent civilians.

The argument that the Irgun were terrorists is nonsense because the Irgun acted in defense of the Jews living is Israel who were constantly harassed by the British by attacking their military units; not innocent civilians.

Israel’s first big mistake was not having and applying capital punishment for murder. Whether the death penalty is a deterrent or not is irrelevant. The Torah’s intent is to implement justice by having the murderer lose his/her life by due process of at the hand of a court. Furthermore, the Torah requires us to remove evil from society.

Israel’s second mistake is releasing the Palestinian terrorists with blood on their hands as a “good will gesture” does nothing to promote peace and the acceptance by the PA of Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. In fact, today’s Jerusalem Post reported that Abbas told the Meretz MK’s that “the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails was unrelated to the launching of the peace talks.” In short, Israel got nothing in exchange!

It’s bad enough that those terrorists were not executed in the first place. But to free them adds insult to injury to the victims and their survivors, especially when we get nothing in return.

Esau hates Yaakov (i.e. Israel/the Jews)

It was written in the Midrash (around 2,000 years ago): It is an established fact (loose translation of Halachah here) that Esau (metaphor for many (but not necessarily all, thank G-d) non-Jews) hates Jacob (metaphor for the Jews). Therefore many non-Jews even if not overtly anti-Semitic cannot really sympathize with Jews not matter how obvious the facts are. These murderers are NOT freedom fighters. They are downright terrorists and criminals. They break into homes, into Yeshivot to kill. They stone and/or shoot at civilian vehicles. Regarding actions against soldiers at least one could argue they are engaged in a war (similar to the USA revolution against Great Britain) - not that I agree that the Palestinians are on the same level as the colonists. However targeting civilians is no different than any common murdering or attempted murdering.

(28) Tammy, August 21, 2013 1:45 AM

How many more times ?

How many more times will Israel's P.M's keep repeating this failure ? After it didn't bring peace the first time why keep releasing terrorist to kill Jews again ? Stupid.

(27) Lyn, August 20, 2013 1:13 PM

Release of prisoners

The blood of Jewish people is very precious, you are God's chosen people. The release of the prisoners will not bring peace and they will try to kill again. Israel is in my prayers. Please be brave and strong. Anti semitism is rising again in the world but know there are those who love the land and the people of Israel.

(26) Gary Katz, August 20, 2013 4:20 AM

Time to take out the trash

This is why Israel needs a death penalty. After all, terrorist murderers are not going to be rehabilitated. If even one of these 26 pieces of garbage stood up and said, "What I did was morally wrong," I think I would faint. Of course, if that did occur, the repentant terrorist would be denounced by Palestinian leaders as a traitor.

(25) Dawn Shults, August 20, 2013 2:06 AM

I agree

I am a Christian and I cannot understand why anyone would think it is a good idea to release murderers to go out and commit future crimes. I am ashamed as an American that we are pressuring Israel. I know that God will bless those that bless Israel and curse those that curse her. It is irrelevant whether or not we believe it to be so. God said it and he keeps his word.

(24) Brahm Zuckerman, August 19, 2013 9:42 PM

Releasing Terrorists

If it were up to me I would never release Terrorists. They should rot in prison. Terrorists can not be negotiated with. They will kill again for sure 100%. The only way they should be released is by shooting them first, and then releasing their dead corpses. No I would not let them spill blood again. Especially Jewish blood.

Alexander Huzau, August 20, 2013 1:36 PM

Why letting terrorists go

I agree to Mr. Zuckerman's oppinion with a mention: those Israeli government which negociates and approves the release of terrorists, is also guilty by making Jewish blood cheap!

(23) Andrés Rosendo, August 19, 2013 9:31 PM

"Freedom figthers" or baby-killers?

BTW, you don't "fight for freedom" by killing children on a bus, stabbing Holocaust survivors or shooting to death families in a car. That's murder. But for them everything is permitted, also to kill your wife because she looks at the neighbor. For the Scandinavian antisemites, communists and racists, Jewish blood is not equal to theirs.

(22) Andrés Rosendo, August 19, 2013 8:10 PM

Indeed. These are not political prisoners, they are murderers who will be returning home to a hero's welcome, including terrorists who threw firebombs, in one case at a bus carrying children; stabbed and shot civilians, including women, elderly Jews, Holocaust survivors and suspected Palestinian collaborators.

(21) Ann Canada, August 19, 2013 2:28 PM

Amen Rabbi!

I so totally agree with you, Rabbi Salomon. Tell it like it is--not like what the fluffy utopians would have us think.

(20) Daisy Harari mayer, August 19, 2013 12:41 PM

Propaganda

We was throu awai from Egypt, in 1956.
I agree in everything you say, and I have a lot o family in Israel and other places. But I would like to steel more propaganda in the news, and tv all over the countries, about out Israel do good.
He in galoot we try but we need to hear more more the voice of Israel. Shalom daisy.

(19) Jeff Morris, August 19, 2013 11:40 AM

I agree

I am sorry that the Israeli govrnment agreed to let the terrorists go free. As to the attitude of the Norwegian families of the victims I am disgusted. That people who themselves suffered a loss to a mindless killer who simply put murdered their loved ones can not see any similarity, is beyond comprehension. Each and every victim of the released terrorists was as innocent as were the Norwegians.

(18) STEPHEN, August 19, 2013 8:17 AM

I SUPPORT YOU

HOW IGNORANT PEOPLE THINK LIKE THIS THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVEN'T HEARD OF OR KNOW WHAT COMPASSION IS THEY NEED PRAYER AND ONLY IF THEY KNEW WHAT THEY'RE THINKING AND SAYING ALTERS THE UNIVERSE THEN MAYBE BY MIRACLE ALONE WOULD THEY RECONSIDER THEIR VIEWS

(17) Baruch, August 19, 2013 6:45 AM

If I am not for myself, who will be for me? (Hillel)

Rabbi Salomon says, ““We are the ones who understand that blood is not cheap and I think it is high time for THE WORLD to come on board.”

Sweden seethes. Perhaps it should. If I were a Swede who loved Israel, I would have to guess that Israel saw these Palestinians as captured soldiers. Otherwise, how could I continue to love a country that releases murderers? If I were a Swede who despised Israel, I would guess Israel values political-economic pressure over blood, law, order and justice. And if I were a neutral Swede, I would read the news and see no massive protests, so if Israelis are OK with it, why should I care?

Either way, Swedes know Sweden would not release a Brayvik. Even if Sweden did, the people would never stand for it. They would not ask others to “understand how they feel.” Israel has released murderers and the Israeli people sorta stood by. Any way a Swede looks at this, ANY comparison is an insult.

Stop kvetching and blaming. WE released them. WE made a clear statement about the value of Jewish blood. “World pressure?" SO WHAT? If it is about “WORLD PRESSURE”, that means WE told THE WORLD last week that your pressure is more precious to us than Jewish blood. It means WE announced to the world that Jewish blood has a political price. WE made Jewish blood cheap. So, yes, Rabbi Salomon hits it spot on when he says that to Scandinavians, “Somehow Jewish blood and Scandinavian blood doesn’t look the same.” Yes, it is hard for Scandinavians, or most any people, to imagine releasing murderers of their own people. It is hard for them to understand that WE do not see Jewish blood the way they see Scandinavian blood – as priceless.

(16) Anonymous, August 19, 2013 5:58 AM

Biased & double standard

I am deeply concerned with the double standard and bias that is obvious with the intermediary Mr. Kerry. Why show an interest to help Israel with the peace process, but at the same time force Israel not only to commit to provide finance for the gaza strip, but also to accept pre-conditions of releasing 104 criminals, in order to continue the peace process while hate continues to spread all over against Israel. A former Journalist from the white house said a while ago, that "the jews should leave Israel and go back to Germany and Poland". Truth is, that Israel by right belongs to the Jewish nation. It is a real shame that the UN and EU have been contributing to the global unrest against the very people who had preserve the history and heritage of the Holy hand.

(15) David Talbot, August 19, 2013 12:55 AM

Totally Agree

I agree with every word you spoke Rabbi.

(14) Brian A.Donnelly, August 18, 2013 11:20 PM

How dare they !!

Thank you for another insightful look as to how deranged the World has become.
As a devout Christian and supporter of Israel I have to say that I believe the many Torah prophesies concerning Israel and these end times. It is difficult to accept that Israel will continue to be subjected to persecution and will suffer greatly at the hands of many evil Nations. This ancient hatred, spawned in the middle East has infected the World and will grow like a disease as a result of this Spiritual warfare being waged against G-d's chosen people.
True Christians will continue to stand alongside their Jewish brothers and sisters and will, as has happened in previous times of peril, be prepared to risk their own well being and sacrifice their own safety in obedience to G-d's commandments.
Long live Israel. Israel and the Jewish people will prevail - but only with G-d's empowering help.

(13) Edmond Richter, August 18, 2013 9:52 PM

our fundamental Problem

Rabbi Yaakoc Salomon has our jewish fundamental Problem resumed in one sentence: "Why doesn´t the world understand?"
The answer is in a french proverb: "When you want to drown your dog, accuses him to have rabies".
Our problem is that we want to be loved ("we are doing so much good things everywhere on earth...") or at least understood. So we are giving again and again to show our goodwill and we are again and again frustrated THAT IT DOESN`T WORK! I´m sorry but we are really stupid by doing this. They won´t love us, they won´t accept us, they won´t understand us. SO DON´T CARE about what they think about us! Cease to be stupid by begging for understanding! Just do what good is for us AND DON`T CARE ABOUT THE REACTIONS: "Never complain, never explain".

(12) Anonymous, August 18, 2013 9:17 PM

Its Worse Than

I think it's worse than releasing Andres Breivik, because as awful as his sin is ,he is only one, and Israel is releasing 104 prisoners, and the reason? Goodwill? Towards whom? This sends a message that if one murders an Israeli, not to worry, because you will be released for some silly reason or another. Arabs only understand strength. They do not understand messages of "Goodwill" and "Peace." There are no such words in their vernacular. These silly peace talks are just that silly, ridiculous, a waste of time, and an expression of weakness and fear which is sweet music to the Arabs. For all of their military accomplishments, Israel really blew it on this one!!

(11) ABE`, August 18, 2013 8:30 PM

Why do you expect something from the world?

the Prime Minister of the state of Israel released murderers and you want non Jews to be upset! Where are you coming from?
How many rabbis do you know that publicly condemned the release? The Prime Minister calls to set up a PA state in the heart of the country? How many Rabbis do you know that publicly condemned this? Leave the Non Jews alone, you have enough work right here at home.

(10) Judith, August 18, 2013 6:52 PM

the world understands verry well

I am sorry to say, but most of the non Jews, except a minority, rejoyces in dead Jews. We are a thorn in their lustfull lives. We are the consience of the world, they love to get rid of. There is only one cure, letting our nation have a good self image through getting close to their roots. We don't need aproval of any nation, we are G'd's nation and we should behave as such.

(9) ross, August 18, 2013 5:27 PM

Rabbi, you jest.

The 'world on board'?!
There's only one issue--who''s land is it. Worldview: It belongs to the Palestinians, period. Every inch of it. Israel is a thief, the epitome of evil. Beyond that, it's all emotional. Only the Palestinians are victims. No discussion will get past this. Give it up, and shout about something else.

(It's a great thing to work on in Elul...stop getting angry at the media...just ignore them, and lower your blood pressure. And your cholesterol, too.)

(8) Anonymous, August 18, 2013 5:21 PM

Cynical beyond belief

There's really no mystery here. As described in The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/13/world/middleeast/israel-names-palestinian-prisoners-to-be-released.html?pagewanted=all) and plenty of other publications, the prisoner release was a cynical calculation by the Netanyahu government. To get to peace talks, Israel had to take one of two very difficult steps: Release some terrorists or halt settlement construction. The government's coalition stood to lose far fewer votes from releasing murderers than from showing even a modicum of restraint on settlement building in disputed areas. For shame!

Susan, August 19, 2013 5:15 AM

For Shame?

I do not agree that building should stop. Israel should never be ashamed of building ..

Releasing terror merchants; 15% have murdered Jews

Visualize the events of 11 March 2011 in Itamar. Picture two Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine cousins breaking into Ruth and Udi Fogel’s home and slit their throats. They then proceeded to the children’s room and committed the same atrocious acts on 11 and 4 year old Yoav and Elad. The two Palestinian cousins (Amjad & Akim Awad) then entered the baby’s room and decapitated 3 month old Hadas in her crib. These two cousins showed no remorse and proudly and publically confessed committing these heinous acts. The next day candy was given to children in many West Bank town squares, cheering erupted to celebrate the horror that just occurred. These same celebrations have taken place every year since 9/11. Soccer fields, playgrounds, parks, schools, and city squares in Judea & Samaria have been named after these suicide murderers. Image an Egged bus picking up passengers and traveling to its several stops in Jerusalem and a terrorist detonating an explosive on the bus and the grandmothers, and grandfathers, fathers & mothers holding their young children being scrapped off the streets & walls. Take a mental photo of Kiryat Shmona where 10 adults and 8 children were gunned down. I leave the few instances of many with one more image. Ma’a lot, Israel 13 miles east of Naharia. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) terrorist merchants entered an apartment complex and shot down two Arab, Israeli women, shot and killed a Jewish couple and then took 105 Jewish children hostage and killed 22 and seriously wounded 68 with automatic gunfire and grenades. How and for what reason do we release 105 terrorists?
Now picture Palestinian children watching TV today, in many Mosques, and in most schools in the disputed territories bombarded by Jihad against Israel and the Jews on a daily basis. Peace must be taught and earned otherwise the next generation of Palestinians’ will never consider peace with Israel.

(6) Jerry E., August 18, 2013 4:20 PM

Why Norway?

Norway was the oinly country, outside of Germany that had its own Holocaust! during World War 2. Furthermore, It has always behaved negatively toward Israel and the Jews. In fact, the Utoya camp was deeply involved in anti-Israel activities, including loud support for the Turkish flotilla to Gaza. The Utoya campers were, in fact, the children of Eskil Pedersen's Workers' Youth Party members, an overtly antisemitic group. No wonder that the Palestinian Terrorist comparison to Breivik, got such a "spirited" answer.
You need to choose the targets for such questions, more carefully - Sweden, for instance. They chucked Noway out in 1906, and I suspect that I know why.

(5) Frank Adam, August 18, 2013 3:45 PM

Do or propose something: Specific, Timetabled, Intent, Final

Write into the Israeli PR at the Foreign Ministry, Zahal, and the police as to assume or propose that there should be a policy and plan that come another intifada or regular war these varlets will be rounded up alive or dead to cool their heels in the Ezuz prison tented camp on the Sinai border on bread and water a daily shallot and apple and a Friday sardine, till a final peace is signed.

(4) Nach Shon, August 18, 2013 3:43 PM

Scott is correct

There are no Palestinians, never have been. The very word Palestine was "invented" by the Roman Church to avoid using the accurate words Judea & Israel as part of their anti-Judaic agenda.
Any attempt to connect the ancient Philistines (a Greek invasion 4000 years back) is naught but evil propaganda. hence anti-semitic.
ever notice how the world ignores all the Ottoman & British documentation about the importation of labor & servants from Arabia. If they are Arabs, then they can not be "Palestinians" There is no historical connection. American WASPS say "they speak Arabic, so they are Arabs". So then Jesse Jackson is Anglo-Saxon & a German?
No Israeli or any Jewish source should ever use the word.

(3) Susan Rose, August 18, 2013 3:40 PM

Amen!

(2) scott, August 18, 2013 1:04 PM

The War of Words

I remember when I went to the car dealer in Colma, Ca to look at Xterras. I wanted a new one so I stepped up to the sticker and saw list price plus $2,500 Serramonte Nissan premium added to the list. They actually wanted me to start negotiating at an above sticker price. I wasn't going to even bother negotiating with people that defined the terms in that way. I left. Bought a used BMW elsewhere.

Using the word "Palestinian" is the same thing. When we use it we have already ceded peeplehood and statehood to these people These are not freedom fighters fighting for the liberation of their homeland. They are Arabs living in land their home countries-Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon lost to Israel in four wars of antisemitic aggression with intent to commit a genocide of Jews each time. They are people whose drive for statehood only began when the alternative was living amongst Jews.

They have no distinct ethnicity-language, cuisine, dress, history-other than that of extreme Jew hatred. Remember that after 1948 they we happy enough to be folded into Jordan, Egypt and Syria.

The first step to taking back the ground we've given in the debate is for Jews to stop using the word 'Palestinian" and "Palestine" as there is no such thing. There is no such people and these is no such independent country and never was.

The Arabs get that. They simply refuse to acknowledge the Jewish state. Always have always will and so the world takes our existence-something we won seventy years ago-as a topic of debate.

The Arabs are winning the war or words...when are we going to smarten up?

There were no "Palestinian Prisoners" released. We were forced to free captured murderers, rapists and terrorists to get people to like us. That's what really happened.

Holy Shirt, August 18, 2013 4:34 PM

".....to get people to like us. That's what really happened." No, it didn't! You were doing so well, until your final paragraph. You don't really believe it was to get people to like us, do you?.

scott, August 19, 2013 6:51 PM

Yes I did.

That's how we negotiate. We give things up and the other side does nothing and then we give up more and get more of the same. We make concessions because we want people to see us as reasonable. We want to be liked for our generosity and fairness. Why else would we release terrorists with Jewish blood on their hands? For absolutely nothing in return...except demands to give up more...like East Jerusalem-you know the part with our holiest sites. There are a whole bunch of Israelis who think that the Arabs will be our friends if we just offer them a fair settlement...fair being giving them land and money and water and the right to arm themselves and us getting the opportunity to keep giving them stuff. They will never like us. So we should stop giving up stuff for free.

(1) Eugenia, August 18, 2013 12:45 PM

I agree letting murders go is wrong !!

I do not understand why the people of Israel let these people go !! True peace is important yet murder is wrong !! These people will kill again and will believe they are doing what G-d ask them to do !! They have the whole Arab world to live in yet they are only want more !! When people are murdered by senseless killing in the name of G-d it's wrong !!

jerry, August 18, 2013 3:37 PM

Its wrong to kill anyone in gods name or to us god to kill any human being. Why can't people live and let live and get on with each other. The world needs peace not hate. May there be peace with everyone on this earth,
