Humility, good for body and soul

I have a neighbor who is brilliant. He's a walking encyclopedia, the scientific word is "Mensa". Emotionally he's strange. I have since met other people that are "Mensa" emotionally there is something amiss. King Shlomo was brilliant he made mistakes, Yehuda was brilliant and look what happened with Tamar. Its as the Rabbi says, who are you, personally. A Uni education, doctorate, gets you know-where if you are arrogant, and treat people like you are better. Humble people get hired, they are not a threat.

Lots of educated people but few smart ones.

Reading, listening to lectures and taking tests certainly doesn't make a person smart. Learning how to logically present a solution to any problem and doing that sucessfully, gives you a bit of the smarts. This quote sort of sums up that an education is just the beginning of the smarts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

Question: Why did Chana daven that Shmuel should specifically not be brilliant? While I understand your point of smartness being overated, you missed out an important detail: Why?

brilliance or average

I believe that Chana wanted him to be loved and revered by man and G-d not for who he genuinely was, brilliance can lead to arrogance, not a test she would want for him. Look at the mistake King Shlomo made he had 1000 wives and he wrote a book full of regrets.
