It's one thing to be in every day situations and not let other people influence you. It's completely another to be in a high-stress situation where you have to be focused on many things at once, and have hordes of people screaming information at you. What the fans did was poor sportsmanship. Yes, the team should have been aware of the actual time left on the clock, but what the fans did was plain dirty play.

Having an Independent Mind!!!
The fans from Michigan were wrong with that type of behavior. I am very much in favor of honest behavior and winning honestly. If not, the score is not a true and honest score. The same is true with a test in school. If a student G-d forbid cheats on a test, it is not his or her true grade; it is someone else's. When I went to school, I always wanted everything to be fair just as I do today. I would have rather received a lower grade knowing that it is my grade and earned honestly. The same is true with a game. It is better to win honestly knowing that it is your true score and not earned dishonestly. I do agree that an individual should have an independent mind and not always listen to others due to the fact that it may be the wrong advice or as in this case the fans from Michigan deliberately causing Columbia to lose the game. I was raised to be an independent thinker and never to listen to others when the outcome may be negative. For this reason, I am proud to say that I NEVER smoked anything and NEVER got drunk and I grew up in the '60's and '70's.

Sad to see this conclusion.
This is unsportsmanlike and unethical conduct. At the least the home team should have made an announcement appealing to the fans not to repeat that behavior. I would hope Michigan State has offered an apology to Columbia. You used to see the home team penalized in football if after a warning, crowd noise prevented the visitors from hearing their quarterbacks signals.

Yes, it is important to be the keeper of one's own conscience, as I like to put it. That, however, does NOT exonerate the very wrong behavior of those fans.

The voice in our ear could be wrong.
Could be the OTHER team had fans counting the seconds in the audience. No dummies there. Coaches tripping players, Grandstand plays in the last seconds of football, all sports have agendas and great choreography. Listen to your own reasoning. Buy that, Go here, hurry up, slow down, eat this, marry her. .
