Fair does not Mean Equal

Too often we think that to treat our children fairly means they must be treated equally. This is not so and children need to learn that lesson. Children have different temperaments, needs, etc. To treat them equally would not take into account their individuality.

Fair DOES mean equal

Karen: Sure all of our kids are individuals and ideally each child should be given their own special time with Mom and Dad. But kid's need to be treated equally. We tried to do everything as a family unit and always tried to include all of them. If, however, you do something special with one child, then I believe that it is imperative that you do something special with the other child. Children need to feel loved and appreciated (don't we all need that?). They must not feel that their parents had "favorites".
