Get some sleep AND avoid cell phone radiation!
Sounds like a good idea to have your child's phone out of his/her room overnight, so they get some sleep, and also because cell phones emit unhealthy radiation that should be kept at a distance from our bodies and heads. Children are even more at risk from this radiation due to their still-developing and smaller brains and skulls. Holding the cell phone away from the ear helps reduce radiation; even a half inch helps. On speaker is better. Sleeping with it under the pillow is not a good idea, yet teens have been known to do so! I've read the fine print in the manuals that used to come with the phone (now you have to search online). They said to hold the phone a half inch to an inch away from the head. Yet this information was buried on the last pages of the manuals, so no one read it! And now that the companies are saving paper by putting the manuals online, even fewer people know of this. Phones emit radiation even when not in use, unless completely turned off. Best to keep phones at least six feet away from anyone's head while sleeping!

Texting at night
Having your child's phone in your room (or, at least, not with the child) also means they can get more sleep, because sometimes children can text back and forth late into the night, and it means that the child is having a lot of interrupted sleep, or less sleep waiting in anticipation for the next text! So it's definitely a good idea for a child to not have their phone in their bedroom overnight. It doesn't need to be there!
