Adventures of Danny
and Dina

In our house there's a lot going on,
It's almost Rosh Hashana, another year has gone!

On the Shofar Daddy is tooting,
Yummy food Mommy is cooking.

Dina is helping with the apples and honey,
Ummm, that tastes so good in the tummy.

The head of a fish! Oh dear!
I'll pass on that this year.

We are busy making homemade cards,
To friends and relatives, we send regards.

Suddenly, a knock at the door!
Maybe it's my friend from the 3rd floor?

I ran to open it. "Uncle Ephraim!" I called out.
"Hi Danny," he said. "You don't need to shout!"

Let me introduce you to Uncle Ephraim.
He lives in the Old City of Yerushalayim.

He comes to visit every once in awhile,
We especially like his big wide smile.

Everyone gathered to greet our special guest,
"Welcome Uncle Ephraim, you are the best!"

"How are you and how is Yerushalayim?"
"Thank God well," said Uncle Ephraim.

"Everyone is getting ready for Rosh Hashanah there,
Just like Jews everywhere."

Uncle Ephraim sat down,
It was a long trip from his town.

"Here is a piece of cake," I said.
"When do you want to go to bed?"

"Not so fast," he said with a smile.
"I've got something here I've been carrying for awhile."

Then he opened his bag up nice and wide.
And he told us to guess what was inside.

"Chocolate!" we shouted with voices strong.
"You are absolutely, positively, undoubtedly ... wrong!"

"Maybe it's an interesting game," we guessed then.
"Your answer is unequivocally, unquestionably ... wrong again."

"Hmmm," I said, "Do we eat it on Rosh Hashanah night?"
"Yes Danny," said Uncle Efraim. "You're absolutely right!"

And he brought out a beautiful jar of golden honey.
(It must have cost him a lot of money.)

Mommy put the honey on the table in a dish,
Next to the carrots and the head of a fish.

Next to the challah that was baked so round
Yummmm, it came out of the oven so golden brown.

"Children," said Uncle Efraim. "This is really a treat."
"I know our year is going to be so sweet."
