No matter the outcome, remember, our lives are in His hands, not in our control, and each day is a gift. It is written, the L-RD gives, and the L-RD takes away. Blessed be the Name of the L-RD! Mishle 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the L-RD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, Acknowledge the L-RD in all of your ways, He makes your paths straight." Tehillim 121:1-2 says, "I lift up my eyes to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the L-RD, the Maker of heaven and earth." some challenges can't be overcome
If God gave us challenges that we should be able to overcome what about cancer? My daughter has stage 3 breast cancer. She is sweet, caring and loving. Her friends, co-workers, boyfriend and my husband and I see how she has always been this way, helping others when they needed it, staying after work hours until a co-worker's husband was able to pick up his wife, who was feeling queasy from stomach flu. Cleaning her boyfriend's mom's house and helping when her boyfriend's mom wasn't feeling well and her boyfriend's mom is now helping her. What is the challenge for our daughter now that she is fighting this terrible disease? How can she overcome this challenge besides our prayers? Her doctors are treating this aggressively and she has had thorough testing to make sure no other cancers are there along with chemotherapy, radiation, and feeling sick from treatments. All she has is excellent care and positive reinforcement from all of us who love her. What is the meaning of this challenge?

I'm very very sorry to hear about your daughters illness. We too have had our share of life threatening illness in our family.
It's impossible to know exactly what the challenge at hand is, or why we received this challenge (see my response to Anonymous #4). Sometimes the challenge isn't the obvious one.
I just wish you and your family only the best of blessings, and please know in the depths of your hearts that each and every one of you in your family has the strength to handle whatever the challenge is that your grappling with, be it physical or emotional. You have the strength and G-d believes in you.

I think that many times the challenge is rising above the bitterness and pain we feel and and leaning on God and the strength He put into us just to get through the day. One foot in front of the other.
May God give your daughter a complete healing and all of you emotional peace.

There's also such a thing as divorce
In response to your "I brought you together to make you great; I'm aware of your communication conflicts," there are times that not all marriages work and divorce is necessary. People simply marry the wrong one. And people have nervous breakdowns from their "challenges"-say it like it is and call them problems. Not everyone can handle them.

What IS the challenge?
Our challenges are always challenges, and we always have the strength to overcome them. The question is: what IS the challenge at hand? In marriage, the challenge might be to attain martial tranquility, while at other times it might be HOW we will get divorced, how we will treat one another amidst the divorce process, and how we will behave after the divorce. But we always have the strength, the question is "What is the challenge?"

Though I have grown up Orthodox, went to Yeshiva elementary and high schools, I have never heard this idea before. Yes, this message is one of the many that Pesach reminds us of every year, but I have never heard this explanation before. Thank you for explaining this vital lesson I will cherish always.
