SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Rabbi Eliyahu Ellis:

My dad talks about his last day in school. He lived in Germany in a small Bavarian town, and he said that one day the principal called everyone into the assembly hall. So they all piled in. And the principal got up on stage, and he said, "Any Jews here, please stand up."

There were a couple of Jews who stood up. The principal said to them, "You’ve all just failed. You’re expelled. Please leave the school."

My dad, who was an athlete, was very good with his feet. He walked down onto the stage, and he kicked the principal very hard, and he said to the principal, "I just want to give you a good reason for failing me." He walked off, and that was his last day in school.
