Why is this on Jewlarious? Is it because he has not yet converted, and is already celebrating Shabbat. That is a no no. Or is it because he thinks it's okay to play a game on Yom Kippur and be Orthodox Jewish? That's another no no. Is Jewlarious' purpose to poke fun at Amare Stoudemire, or to applaud him? Most people in the comment section are taking this guy serious and praising him. He seems sincere. I don't want to make fun of him. I just wonder if he is ever going to convert. Or does he even think he has to since he seems to think everybody is Jewish. After all, I hear talk that Abraham was the first real Jew. So that would make Jewishness in the blood and covenant with Abraham. Wouldn't it? However Judaism is a religion and not a race, as the saying goes. Or maybe Stoudemire has already converted, and I didn't catch that? These are just some questions I'm pondering. Maybe you can help shed some light on the subject. If so, please do. Alan Drake Tyree

Thats sounds pretty racist, plus Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world for all people not just " black athletes" Islam does not categorize.

Tongue in cheek, Gold's is emphasizing the importance of tradition in the above link. And there is nothing wrong with injecting humor into the matter.

This is great!
My favorite comment is that he would eat on Yom Kippur if he had a basketball game. This shows the idea that Judaism is not all-or-nothing. This man is at the beginning of a journey,. Who knows where it will lead. But he is committed to kosher, Shabbat, etc. -- to the extent that he knows about them. And he is committed to learning more, to be able to do things properly. I recall a few years ago when Shawn Green of the LA Dodgers had TWO playoff games on Yom Kippuir. In the end, he made the difficult decision to sit one out, and play in the other. In the game that he played, he hit the game-winning home run. I asked a great rabbi at the time: Was that a bad thing? he answered: On the contrary! It shows that we are rewarded for trying to do God's will, even if we don't always succeed in fulfilling it 100%. Of course that doesn't absolve us from trying to fulfill 100%. But God knows how hard we are trying, and he will reward us -- even if it means "allowing" us to hit a home run on Yom Kippur. So I hope this basketball player continues to grow in his Jewish commitment, and undoubtedly he can have a positive influence on many young Jews today. (maybe even Chelsea's husband!)
