Mrs. Goldstein gave her class an assignment: a mitzvah project. Students would have to do various good deeds and report back to the class.
One morning class started and little Davey Weiss was late (again). An hour went by before he finally arrived.
“Mr. Weiss,” said Mrs. Goldstein. “I think I will have to send you to the principal’s office again for your tardiness.”
“Oh no you won’t” responded little Davey.
“And why’s that?” asked Mrs. Goldstein.
“I was doing a mitzvah for the mitzvah project.”
“I see,” said Mrs. Goldstein. “And what mitzvah were you doing?”
“Helping a lady cross the street,” said Davey.
“And that took an hour?” asked Mrs. Goldstein skeptically.
“For sure.”
“What took so long?”
“Well,” replied Davey. “She didn’t really want to cross.”
