Skipping School in Chelm

Berel A. Shmerel High school in Chelm had a policy that parents must call the school if a student was to be absent for the day.

Chaim Yankel, deciding to skip school, waited until his parents had left for work and called the school himself.

This is the actual conversation of the telephone call...

Chaim Yankel: "Hi, I'm calling to report that Chaim Yankel is unable to make it to school today because he is ill.

Secretary at high school: "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I'll note his absence. Who is this calling?"

Chaim Yankel: "This is my mother."
