Chaim Yankel was known for being notoriously stingy. One of his least favorite days was approaching: his mother’s birthday. He knew that he needed to get her a present, but everything he saw was too expensive. Finally, he came across something in his price range: a broken glass vase – it was going for next to nothing. Chaim Yankel asked the store to send it to his mother who lived overseas, hoping that she would think it had been broken in transit.
In due time, Chaim Yankel received an acknowledgement from his mother. "Thank you for the vase," it read. "It was so thoughtful of you to wrap each piece separately."
