Chaim Yankel and his wife Chaya Mushka lived on a farm in the famed city of Chelm, just yards away from the city of Minsk. Their land had been the subject of a minor dispute between the Chelm and Minsk for years. The now widowed man lived on the farm with his son and three grandchildren. One day his son came into his room holding a letter.

"I just got some news, father," he said. "The cities of Chelm and Minsk have come to an agreement. They've decided that our land is really part of the Minsk. We have the right to approve or disapprove of the agreement. What do you think?"

"What do I think?" Chaim Yankel said. "Sign it! Call them right now and tell them we accept! I don't think I could stand another one of those Chelm winters!"
