A Jewish man traveling on a train at the turn of the century finds himself in an empty compartment. He goes about making himself comfortable by unbuttoning his coat, opening a newspaper, and putting his feet up on one of the empty seats.

A few minutes later, the door opens, and a gentleman in modern dress comes in and sits down. The Jew immediately pulls himself together, takes his feet off the seat, and assumes a proper pose. The stranger sits in silence, looks at a calendar and then asks, "Excuse me, do you know when Yom Kippur is this year?"

"Aha!" says the Jew, and puts his feet back up on the seat.
