What a false world we live in!
Where are the real people? Are there any real people left in the world? All this "virtual" friendship has captured the minds of too many people. People are becoming the "Zombies" of the old Superman comic era...if you're old enough to remember that. If not, then are YOU a Zombie? Come on, let our NESHOMOS guide us and fill our lives with more Torah learning and good deeds. Remember, our Father in Heaven does not need a computer to receive our thoughts.

I think that facebook does strengthen relationships in a way and weakens them in others. My relationships with my friends that I don't see very often are kept alive by facebook but we call eachother much less and spend actual time with eachother much less. Because facebook satisfies our needs for keeping in touch making us forget that being friends should have some contact other than chatting over the internet.

everything has pros and cons. the pros are its easier to send pix and videos to close family and friends, if you have a question or need to network or find a long ago acquaintance, facebook does the trick. i believe though that the cons outweigh those. people know more about your minute-to-minute life and less about you. we are so caught up relating the unimportant things in life that we forget to talk and discuss the important part feelings and ideas etc. also, facebook helps demolish one of the most crucial parts of a persons life, and home- privacy. there is noway a page can be completely private. there are more reasons facebook is not ideal- listing friends as status symbol is not healthy for anyone especially the younger generation. life is more than friends, pictures and what i did today. if you have a good friend or relative, do them a favor and go out for lunch or give them a ring. though not everyone will admit it, but that feels much better and means a lot more than friending someone.

Facebook is eeevil. It sucks you in and doesn't let you out. I for one had no life to lose in the first place, but I've seen the damage done :P

Quality versus Quantity
To avoid hurting too many people, I tend to click OK to people who want to befriend me otherwise I feel obliged to tell applicants that I have to limit the number of "friends" so that it do not personally reject them.
But the term "friend" has been somewhat devaluated - so in this context it means: " a person to whoom I am not openly hostile"
Real friends are such a rare commodity, that they can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
