dog and pony show
I am uncomfortable with the tone of this story. As my title suggests, it has the semblance of a dog and pony show. I think it is wonderful that Steven has this gift, but why is it so important to tie his gift to his autism. When we do this, it becomes "them and us". "Them" who are different and only get recognition because they have this remarkable gift. What about all those folks who are different but don't have remarkable gifts; how do they get seen in this world. What about their isolation.
Steven is a gifted man, a wonderful artist, and also happens to have autism. That's where the priority should lie.

You are right
you are right in acertain sense but it really depends on you rown perspective! I personally didnt see it that way. If you generally associate with them as them and us than thats what you think when you see something like this! I personally work with children or adults with special needs and I learn a lot from them. I LOV THEM!! I saw this as an accomplishment that would make the headlines of the news no matter whether it had been someone special or not. But on the other hand you do have to take his disabilities into consideration because that is reality and THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT ALL THE MORE INSPIRING AND ASTONISHING!!! That yes even someone with such difficulty could accomplish great things; It gives us a pus for our life!!

If such a short exposure to a view makes such an impression on a human brain, it becomes so much more important to avoid exposure (even momentary) to inappropriate sights, as they will be retained in the human brain, even subconsciously.

the mind is a beautiful gift...
my son is also autistic, but not a savant...however he also draws amazingly well, with photographic detail in few exposures..since he was very small. It is his gift, among many. People such as autistics can teach us to appreciate all G-d has given us, if we allow them to! To look for the beauty in each soul. Thanks for this video!

Al tehi baz l'chol adam
From Pirkei Avos (Ethics of Our Fathers): "Al tehi baz lechol adam ... she'ain lecha adam she'ain lo sha'ah"
Don't look down at any person or thing, becuase everyone has his time and place. An autistic person can do so much--teaches us not to look down on ourselves, either!

It is amazing how when one part of the mind is dominant , some people can tap into the unknown. Some areas are blocked forcing him to use a part of his brain that most cannot tap into..
