We do what we think we have to do
I don''t know if many of you know, but this story is based on someone''s actual experience. She knew that she had to endure this to get to where she wanted to in journalism - she did. In fact, that job opened doors for her to get her dream job at the New Yorker.
We feel that we have to let our jobs consume us because, it will help us get ahead. It is an unfortunate reality but it seems that the only people who succeed in their careers are the people who give everything up to get there. Once they do, it is up to them to decide if it is still worth it.

Serve Hashem......not your boss.......
The thing that most young people don''t get is that you need to serve Hashem....not your boss. To many youngsters think that kissing up is the way to get ahead. If you serve Hashem first and try hard to make it on your own by using the good sense he gave you....ie...school, training, job experience, and networking...you''ll never have to degrade yourself in such a manner as this poor character. This was a necessary topic for a lot of young ones just starting out. Good stuff Jewlarious!

she lacks self respect
She thinks that by letting herself be used as a dishrag that she will get ahead. The boss sees her as a peon and by continually being able to pee on her will never let her go upward. It is foolish of the girl to let herself think that her advance will be enabled by others giving her a "break" or lifting her up. If she wants to be a journalist she has to get her degree in it and then start out by doing that kind of work - not by being a receptionist.
