too simple an approach to a complex issue

as a person who has been deeply involved with holocaust and genocide programming and education i found a total disconnect with this film as a way to role play and stimulate an IT CAN HAPPEN TO US discussion....maybe i am jaded and thought it would be about another 911 type of attack...

The only thing we have control of in this world is our spiritual growth.

Yes, nobody can steal your thoughts and your beliefs.....and if we don't understand why society is the way they are today by investigating and studying the past, the history, then we are bound to make the same mistakes. What can we do to avoid past mistakes> GET INFORMED! TELL OTHERS! EVEN IF THEY DON'T WANT TO DO THE BEST YOU CAN WITH YOUR LIFE. DON'T BE SELFISH...THINK OF OTHERS TOO. AND...PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! HAVE FAITH. That's it. God will do the rest.

(28) Harry Kuperschmidt, August 7, 2008 8:51 PM

What was your goal?

I was appalled by the scene. I have seen and heard enough about trains from my mother, God rest her soul.
I believe we should be focusing on solutions, not just outdated scare tactics.
Make a recommendation on how we can prevent this from ever happening again, something everyone can sink their teeth into.
Make one recommendation. Just one.

keep moving up

Our sages teach us that a Jew is either moving forward or falling behind. The only thing we have control of in this world is our spiritual growth. Although world peace is in my prayers, anti semitism will likely exist until the arrival of Moshiach and until that happens, we cannot be surprised at anything. (who would have dreamed up the collapse of the World Trade Cemter?) Upon reading many holocaust books I noticed that throughout the horrors of those years and different experiences people went through, the personality of each person came through in their reaction to their challenges. Kind people mostly stayed kind and selfish people stayed selfish. (I'm not, G-d forbid, judging anyone, I have only the utmost reverence for every single victim of the Holocaust - who were mekadesh shem shomayim- every one of them). Additionally, those that were brought up with a solid background of Emunah Pshuta and loads of Bitochon, generally feared better (emotionally). All we can do is be the best we can be and try to move upwards.

Are we to continue the history of being victims as a Jew in the eyes of an intolerant non Jewish Western or Arab or Moslem world? or is the world that surrounds us fearful of having too much of our salt of becoming a victim to our being the alleged owners of the world's brains, wealth and heritage? In either case, without G-d's protection, kindness, truth and justice...we lose.
For myself and all of my family to choose G-d with all of our frail might does prevent our denigration into the "living dead" state faced by many wanderers whose ultimate destination is disintegration - like a majority of Jews today face - as aimless straphangers on the subways of the world going nowhere's pretty quickly.
May we all choose Life to become living members of ourselves , of our living people and of our Creator. Together we are One. Alone we become straphangers.

Do our share

We have to be careful about what our actions are and worry what we are preparing for the future. Judaism teaches us that a person has that what he cares enough to prepare ahead and it is the importance of our heritage which we have to be mostly concerned of to keep safely and intact for the future. What will happen with us physically is only up to Hashem. We can only hope to do our best to keep a good record for Him to find us worthy of only the best....
Good luck to all and best wishes for only safe living.

"The Earth is a turbulent place..."

The earth is a turbulent place
Each country competes in a race
When pandemonium breaks loose
Which would you choose for the mindless madness it perpetrates?
Is it darkest Africa or the United States.
Living in the midst of terror day and night, Not doing enough nor putting up a fight, Many concentrate with all their might To end this violence or take flight!!

Scary!

Very scary!

(22) Rachel Foxman, August 5, 2008 7:30 PM

Could it happen again?

Isn't it already happening in Darfur?

(21) ldw, August 5, 2008 5:21 PM

The US is about to trade Israel for a few barrels of crude!

(20) Anonymous, August 5, 2008 4:19 PM

yes

assimilation is the real threat now days and the enemy is within ourselves....if we dont stick together and appreciate what we have, soon being jewish will no longer have any meaning or sense...being jewish is about the community and once that is lost, the remainder is nothing... after all, is a jewish man or woman living by himself in some far away oriental city, never attending anything jewish, never mixing with jews, dating non-jews etc.. is he/she really a jew?

(19) Leslie. F, August 5, 2008 10:35 AM

not strong enough.Be bolder.

All over the world, we need stronger lay leadership. Continuous contacts among all jewish organisations. L.F ..U.K.

(18) Anonymous, August 5, 2008 9:13 AM

Could it????

Not to be morbid, but Hashem yerachem, it already seems to be happening. Yet we ignore the calls of Jihad the world over, while casually riding our subways towards an uncertain destination.
Also…perhaps Aish could post a response as to why you put this on Jewlarious. Was it an error?

(17) Rikki, August 5, 2008 9:04 AM

I shouls like 2 say two things:
Firstly:(in answer to comment number three)that it is appropriate whenever whatever to let jews understand that.
it could happen again, that we should be aware that they hate us and want us dead.
Secondly:I think that if we will unite against them in prayer and war-all Jews from all over the world,we will be able to make a diffrence and sey NO to terror.
May Hashem Destroy our destroyers,AMEN!!!!!!!

Very effective and well done. However it belongs above the line that says Jewlarious.

(15) Jane, August 5, 2008 8:38 AM

thanks for the reminder

I wonder if people realize just where we are today. The violence is just waiting to erupt. I will understand if you do not chooose to publish this comment

(14) David Weitzman, August 5, 2008 8:36 AM

Just like fashion in clothes history repeats itself but never in quite the same way

I am aware, I try my best to make others aware too, I am a non-observant traditional Jew who has a head and history in this country in this country where my family has been since the late 19th century, but for all of that my heart is with my family here and also with our country Israel. I have no illustions that it could happen again, I just hope that it does'nt.

(13) Arlene, August 5, 2008 8:08 AM

Definitely NOT Jewlarious!

While it is not funny and could definitely happen again, it is inappropriate for this website.

(12) Zissi, August 4, 2008 8:40 PM

It definitely can happen again

It definitely can happen again. Look what happened in Israel-no one protested or said anything when two dead Israeli prisoners were exchanged for live Arab murderers. There is a rise in anti-Semetism in the most unlikely of places-Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY. There have been swastkias drawn and anti-Jewish comments made. We need to wake up to reality if this does happen again, G-d forbid, it would be worse than its predecessor with the new technology and apathy towards the Jews.

(11) Anonymous, August 4, 2008 6:38 PM

Of course it can happen again.

Thyey came for the Communists and I said nothing because I was not a Communist. They came for the Jehovahs Witnesses, and I said nothing because I was not a witness.....and on and on.... When they came for the Jews no one said anything because they weren't Jewish. The US is on ly a friend of the Jewsish people on the surface, and it wouldn't take much to scrape the veneer away to expose the anti-semitism.

(10) GDP, August 4, 2008 4:52 PM

Anyone who thinks it can't happen again is a fool and is afraid of the facts!

I sincerely believe that a holocaust can happen again! I one hundred percent agree with Sara about the world reactions to present day situations. Although I don't know too much about politics and current world events I can tell you now as a frum jew that little I do see or hear I am shocked at. All I can say is that the world better shape up before it is to late.

(9) Anonymous, August 4, 2008 4:28 PM

This is very scary. if you read about what happened before the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash and before the Holocaust, you will be surprised that it is exactly what is going on in todays world. that gives us something to thinkn about

(8) Peter D. Relyea, August 4, 2008 4:01 PM

Only this time it will be by the Jihadists!

I am just standing by waiting for the jihadists to do the almost same thing to us Jews. Coming Soon,
Pesaḥ Bar Abraḥam

(7) malka, August 4, 2008 3:21 PM

oy

yes it could happen, that's what worries me. It could happen anywhere. And at first things are very subtle so nobody suspects anything, and then it gets bad. Europe is being populated by many muslims. America might have a muslim president who claims that he's not, however he symposizes with them. Oy.

(6) Sara, August 4, 2008 1:34 PM

It happened once, it CAN happen again

Look at France, how it kow-tows to the Arabs. The world, as a whole, HATES the JEW and there's no escaping the truth. Jews have to help their own because no one else cares whether we live or die. Think about the world's reaction (or non-reaction, as it were) to the prisoner exchange in Israel last week. NOT a peep from ANYONE how the Jews received 2 dead bodies while releasing 5 live, with-blood-on-their-hands Arabs.

Making friends

It`s better to learn about other cultures, especially neighbours', study languages and make own customs known to new friends among potential enemies...

(4) C. Lowe, August 4, 2008 7:56 AM

Of course it could happen again. England is setting the stage right now with their marching in the streets with the Pro-Palestinian Arab groups, and calling for a one-state solution.
It is my prayer that the United States should back off from encouraging the return of Jewish lands to Arab peoples. It will be the ruin of my country (USA) just as it has been of England.

We live by the law of the Jungle.

We are the same like the Animals.
When the Lion caches one Zebra all the others keep running .

(2) Rosen, August 3, 2008 8:07 PM

learning from the past

It's important that those who do not remember or acknowledge the past are condemned to repeat it. It's sad how we didn't learn the lessons of Vietnam, and how there have been a number of genocides after the Holocaust in Europe, even after establishing the UN.

Ben Franklin was right that a democracy is a republic if you can keep it, so when mediocre minds come to power, it most definitely leads to tyranny. Such "leaders" with a pivotal, closed-minded mentality have done so much damage to their nation and the world. Only the rich chemistry of democracy, checks and balances, oversight, etc. can overcome too much power in such leadership.

As one book says, "Impeachment: The Remedy for Royalism".

Thus, too much of one culture or ideology and the wraph it poses is bad.

I've also read that if people conform to evil, they most certainly can conform to good, and that would be by the understanding of Tanakh and B'nei Noach.

(1) Eliav, August 3, 2008 6:09 AM

you better believe it

Watch the world's reaction to more recent and even ongoing acts of genocide and it's clear that not only could it happen again, it's happening. It's happened in Europe (all over), it's happen(ed/ing) in the Middle East, it practically is the history of China, and it's happening in Africa. There's no place it couldn't happen, and anyone who thinks otherwise is being naive.
