Lighten up! It's a comedy. Larry David has done more for Christian-Jewish reconciliation (ala Seinfeld) than all you complainers put together.

maybe Larry should learn from the Yidden in Israel

Watching this made me feel so sorry for this man's reaction while his fellow Yidden in Israel so readily open their homes to strangers(okay, they are Jewish but they still are strangers) from the north and south who needed a place to escape during the respective wars.

i don't watch his program...period

his program will turn people into antisemites. i am no prude, but his language is filthy and most of his programs are not helpful in the least. I watched several of his shows and being Jewish, this bastard brings out the the steriotypes that I hate to see.

no excuses to not give!

i think all these comments are on the right track...jews are OBLIGATED to give at least 10% of income to charity... the problem is that a lot of people (including jews) say "i just cant afford it," which is not true at all! there are lots of things we can sacrifice out of our luxurious lifestyle in order to give BASIC needs to others! for example: cut your cable, buy the cheaper brands in the supermarket, buy 2nd hand, stop eating out so much and buying overpriced lattes, etc.... no excuses! if you think youre too poor to give, visit a soup kitchen or shelter and then think again

One Should Respond in Accordance with Abilty Plus

Larry is obnoxious, as always, and selfish. He has a generous wife who manipulates him into good deeds. That's a double mitzvah for her. They live in a huge mansion, so why shouldn't they help a family. There would be nothing wrong with making house rules for mutual consideration. Larry might not be capable of that! Maybe it would be better if he paid for a family to stay at a hotel for a set period of time. That might be kinder! :)

help wherever we can

To me, being a Jew means having compassion for all of humanity. While my first obligation is always to my family and immediate community, I feel an obligation to the rest of the world as well. We should, in my opinion, do whatever we can to help ALL people. G-D created non-Jews in His image as well. There is no such thing as "a disaster that does not affect us". We are all part of the global society and what affects one part of the world affects all of us. Just my thoughts...

Tikun Olam?

I think the 10% goes to tzedaka not to "tikkun olam, paying our bills."

prioritizing mitzvahs

While the first charity does begin at home and with one's self, we must make sure that our mitzvot is prioritized in sync, such as giving 10% of our net income to tikkun olam, paying our bills, and giving to organizations that help the needy and impoverished whatever we can spare thereafter.
