Yes, we quite simply take much too much for granted. We should all appreciate much more all the blessings that G-d has put into this world and use them all properly. When we get them, say "Thank you G-d for making my life so much easier than it could have been"

This guy is totally telling the truth. The next generation is getting so spoiled by our "amazing" technologies, literally taking everything for granted. Even I WAS spoiled. No wonder Americans get so fat, sleek and so ungrateful for the things we have, that most people DON'T have in other countries. It was God who gave us riches, not us, since everything is His. The Truth and nothing but the Truth of American Lives...

I am a senior and I can remember when there was no TV, computers or cell phones. We really have it made today, but if you have grown up with all this, you have no conception of life before. The kids today are so very lucky to have all the modern facilites and the sad part, is they do not appreciate it, as it has always been there for them.

this is very ironic. im only 19 and im amazed when i see these 9 year old kids holding blackberry! why in the world would he need that?! and i think that we should stop every once in a while and allow yourself to be amazed at a fax and a television at the internet! i dont think you need to ecstatic every time your on a plane or the men in white coats will take you away but a little appreciation WILL make us much happier!

Ugh...

My reality check came the other day when my internet was down and I really needed a phone number and I could NOT find it in the Yellow Pages. It was probably one of the most confusing hard things I've done in a VERY long time. But I can completely reformat computers, use a pocket pc, and do analytic geometry and calculus. Something's gotta give people...

Right on!

I definitely agree with that guy. He was really funny, and he has a really good point. He put it in such an obvious way. His wake up call is that we are spoiled and we don't appreciate the miracles that are literally all around us. With all of the expansive opportunities we have today, we should take more advantage of it and use it for the greater good.

Change Your Perspective, "Mon"

Oh, great! It's so easy to kvetch, and always! So, this take on modernity made me realize the miraculous conveniences that I have taken for granted. I think that I will start looking at everything differently. NOt only will I feel better, but so will everyone around me.

Each week the salesperson, inurance agent, milkman, household goods whole-saler etc, would would come to the door for your small payment towards a bill,at times with coffee & a chat.

what millenials appreciate

Generation Y, aka the Millenials, born after 1980, as myself, tend to take various technologies for granted. Even so, I do remember dial-up Internet, and I do not miss that at all, given that the Internet became popular in 1995 when I was in middle school...As for those who consider themselves "the greatest generation", I have never came across a millenial saying that their generation is the best. I would imagine many older people of earlier generations born in the early 20th century would boast that they are "the greatest generation", and may point out what is "wrong" with the generations after them with the baby-boomers, generation x, and millenials. Even so, our elders are to be respected with all their collective experience and memories.

Anyone remember the non-electric Typewriter?

I started handwriting letters, then progressed to a typewriter which was NOT electric. When electrical typewriters were invented(no push bar to get to next line!!) I thought it was the state of the art. Now I live in e-mail time - no retyping whole pages because of a single spelling mistake, no folding papers to go into envelopes, no walking to the post office for stamps. What's next - mental telepathy for everyone!!!?? - we'll have to learn to have only nice thoughts! Wouldn't that be wonderful - sigh! Too much like wishful thinking?

My kids complain that the microwave takes SO long. They don't understand what I find funny about that!

Remember It Well

I remember party telephone lines, my father telling stories about being a "telephone message runner at his uncle's store", when most people did not have phones. The last century brought more inventions and changes than ever. We were amazed by almost everything. Even airconditioning in movie theaters was unheard of when I started going. Today at home and in our cars. WOW!

Before the telephone we had Telegram Delivery Boys who came to you home by bike If you got one of those delivered, you were frightened to open it as it usually held bad news!!

All In Perspective

He certainly put things in perspective (except for airline delays [and baggage losses]). And, things will improve over time even more!

LOved It

THat Guy is SO ME!!! My kids tease me about it, but also know I'm right. I am still very vocally amazed about stuff like the wonder of a fax transmission!! But did you see Conan's reaction? Watch it again. it's like (facial expressions and body language say it all) "Oh I totally never thought that way." He's probably thinking "Man I've just been put in my place. I'm one of those spoiled kids of this generation." He really looked uncomfortable, if you ask me. Also, isn't he the one that put out that movie that is so bigotted against religious people, something like "Religiculous?" In that case he's anyway a miniscule piece of pollution that could never pay enough rent to live on this earth.

but it was someone who looked like him...i can't quite recall his name--that guy who did that film was a "journalist" not a talk show host.

An eye opener even for those of us of the "older" generation!

Even though those of us in our late seventies and eighties certainly remember when none of today's goodies were available, we do need a wake-up call now and again just to remind us how advanced our technologies have become. Sure can't agree with much of the younger generation's lifestyles but it is what it is!

FACT: HUMOR IS NOT FUNNY IF IT ISN'T BASED ON TRUTH. This fellow is so right on because he presents the truth with the paradox. None of us can be amazed if we haven't lived 'the TRUTH'. None of us can fully appreciated 'the parting of the sea' during the Eqyptian escape because, dah, we weren't there. History and its study is the foundation of the survival of the Jews.

Soo true. This generation wants anything and everything to be instant. As a teacher in middle school I see less and less time invested in waiting for something to get done, or thinking things out.Children and adults complain and find falt with everything.
