Just say no

Never having seen this show, I don't know the characters or any relevant big picture(s). But from what I have seen, I would certainly side with Mrs Hassan. I would do whatever is necessary to leave the office and get to safe ground, and from there, get ready to fight it out with whatever comes. After all, the most certain way to lose is to give in to the extortion and hate yourself afterwards. Live life the best you can, with the greatest integrity that you can. Liars, if pushed hard enough, crumble and expose themselves. Let the pressure come. You always have the potential to handle whatever comes up in your life. Don't give in to fear.

Does nobody but me see the irony that Mrs. Hassan is supposedly representing a peace loving nation whose leader has finally decided to trust an American president. It could never happen. It would go agains the dictates of the Muslim brotherhood. Mrs. Hassan seems more like the Jewish statesmen who have been bullied since the days of the Carter era , and has anything changed? Not a chance. This is because the misguided western world ( including Israeli's) do not understand the people in that region. The radicals do not ever want to live beside a Jewish state. This is what every president continues to miss. Peace agreements cannot be coerced and you can't make deals with the devil. signed Channa

Reflections of reality

In my opinion, viewers were meant to arrive at the conclusion of what really goes on – even in the higher echelons of government. The point being that even a President can have clouded judgment and make awful mistakes. Her previous adviser who walked out was the moral person and she instead chose to be influenced by the wrong person, she also knew that she was making a mistake (apparent in her demeanor) , yet she allowed herself to be influenced. How often do we simple folk do similar things when we choose to listen to the wrong friend or our evil inclination?

Big Fan

I am a big fan of 24 and must say that this episode annoyed me for the very reason you bring it up. No, the ends did not justify the means. The means betrayed the end to the very core. You can not have an agreement without a meeting of the minds. Here, the agreement was being made with false pretence, lies and alternative motives which were selfish and did not promote the actual goal of the peace agreement.

President Taylor was obviously trying to play God, rather than admitting that things had spun out of control, and that the peace treaty was kaput. She stopped at nothing for that peace agreement to be signed, and doing many wrongful things besides hoodwinking Mrs. Hassan along the way, such as nearly killing Jack Bauer. She does majpr teshuva at the end. I am more concerned with not being able to watch Jack Bauer do new amazing things anymore.
