The Real way to teach kids
My husband was a smoker until 6 months before I met him. He told me a how his teacher once tried to scare his class out of smoking...with zero results. He told them about a kid who'd smoked 2 packs a day for 5 years and died at age 19. All the kids laughed. Tell kids that you'll ruin your life if you overdo it on something and you're not really telling them anything. Explain to them with LOADS OF PATIENCE that the little things in life are what counts. Tell them the truth, live the truth, teach the truth by example, and your kids are way more likely to follow. Try and scare them and you'll end up frustrated and way furthur into deep waters than you were before. Whether it takes a scared child a thousands years to rebel, at some point he'll rebel, and with no trust left in his parents. Have patience, accept your child for who he is, and you'll at least have a relationship and a trust between you. Easier said than done, though.

Dire Consequences for Everything!!
Of course the other major problem is that Dad is trying the scare his daughter by making up stories about the worst possible thing that can happen to you if you do XYZ. How about just telling the truth to the kids?

Not the world's best educator, is he?
Right or wrong this certainly is not the way you educate or help your children to grow. We all had our rebeious times and many of us have had potentially rebellious children. No good results ever occurred through putting them down in front of others. Only by a real and careful understanding of their lives, great caring love and above all, sincere prayer to G-d for their true success, have we ever achieved anything worth talking about. When dealing with their problems, they have to know that you really care about THEM. As Zig Zigler famously said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care...about THEM"
