Yes humor can help in hard times, we need to laugh and have a good time even if we ar not in the best situation. We just have to rember not to take it too far.

united goal helps redirect emotional energy
I believe its not just the "laughing power" that helped with the emotional pain. It was belonging to a group with a unified goal, the redirecting of their energies( ties into this weeks parsha re dor hafloga) And if they went home and gave it thought, heres a game that coming in last is best!
