Food = life !
Actually, (3) lyone was right in saying that "food is central to everyone's life, and all cultures and religions have rituals and traditions surrounding food." But if we want to be gaivadik (self righteous) we could say we Jews believe in life (as it says in the Torah, "choose life") so we love food, which is life affirming (except when over-eating, which is another subject!).

Food is Important
The fact is, food is central to everyone's life, and all cultures and religions have rituals and traditions surrounding food. But Jews have a great sense of humor, better than many other people--maybe because we have been through so much suffering? And we have learned to to create joy and laughter where we can.
