i dont agree with you on this point i think that BEAOUSE matisyahu was in the 30 s it ruined him beacouse he want used to the attention he didnt grew up with it he got overwhelmed and cought up oin that world but this boy is 14 he will get usued to it he will know that he is a jew and that there is a difference between him and the goys he wouldent know any better besides he probably has a good encouraging family behind him who knows their kid pretty well and will help him to make the right choises . belive me they have spent some sleepless nights about whter to send their kid to america's got talent.

all of the people who thin that Edon is creating a chillul hashm are crazy. he is showing the secular wrld that matisyahu isn't the only one who represents the jeish world. i say Edon is a better representitve.

Edon explained in interview by Nachum Siegel on JM in the AM on 7/3/12 that he auditioned for AGT specifically to do a kiddush hashem...and he has by bringing glowing reviews from the judges about his nice image as well as his talent. As Nachum Siegel points out, he was featured on Shalsheles Jr. in the past. With G-d's help, he will no doubt return to the Jewish music scene soon, giving Jewish fans who already indulge in secular pop music more reason to explore the incredible diversity of Jewish music. I don't know if it is in the spirit of the 3 weeks or of Torah values in general to speak negatively about other Jews, even though the headline of the video suggests one to share their honest opinion. Honestly, I don't know if it's right to share our opinions if it casts another Jew in such a negative light. I think it's important to be careful what we say and how we say it.

Most of the comments show Edon in a positive light. At the same time, there are many others discussing Edon as a figure (not the kid personally) representing the Jewish people outside of this site. I was at a shiur this Shabbos and someone asked the same question as this site. When edon and his family chose to go on a national show like AGT, he sparked this national conversation about what it means for the Jews as he is representing us. Personally, I think he is an amazing Kiddush Hashem by wearing his Yalmukah, but it is fine that others feel differently. However, when someone chooses to be on national stage where they are judged by America, the Jews are going to weigh in as well. This discussion string is a real, honest and important discussion and it really had nothing to do with Edon personally, but what he represents. The worst thing we can do is not discuss what it means to us as Jews when we put ourselves in the public light and in a very secular world. I am not suggesting it is a bad thing, but we should all discuss that and figure out how we balance our Torah lives and our work lives. Edon seems to be doing it very well and I commend him.

thank you aish for posting this clip and thank you everyone for the wonderful, diverse and sincere comments. in the 3 weeks, its wonderful to see so many diff opinions being spoken without arguments breaking out. that said, i think that edon is a wonderful boy, a real mensch, making a kiddush HAshem for the secular world. however, he is very possibly making a chillul Hashem for the Jewish world. for children who dreamed of joinign the secular world in any way, they now have the "opening" to do so. once one orthodox-jewish child, person joined teh secular pop culture, it makes it ok for everyone to do so. and not everyone can handle that without throwing off the kippah, or G-d Forbid the whole yoke of Torah. We are in golus and we must stay separate. we dont understand the fire we deal with when we enter the secular world.

I certainly share your concern, however, there are Halacha-abiding and Torah-committed Jews who believe in engaging with the outside world (in almost every arena) even if it is risky. Not every Orthodox Jew reaches the same conclusion regarding how to respond to our secular surroundings, and it is important to realize that, especially when passing judgement on the boy.

I wish everyone who was so publicly Jewish behaved this well. His conduct so far is commendable.

It's wonderful to see a Jewish kid wearing a kippah with pride. Why not show that to the world, and not shy away from it. We would not be discussing this if he was not wearing a kippah. We should help him get there by voting for him. He sings like an angel.

I think Edon is compromising his soul for fame during the "three weeks"

I feel it is important to mention that Edon will, in fact, NOT be performing at all during the three weeks. The next round of the competition (when Edon will have to perform again) will be held in about five weeks according to the show's website. Even if we disagree with his decision, please let us all try not to broadcast false information.

I would be terrified if any of my children were put into that kind of situation. I don't know if any in this generation is strong enough to survive the temptations that Edon will have to face. Yeah, it makes Jews look good -- but at what cost?

What I think is good for the Jews is the number of people willing to vote for a kid wearing a yalmulka.

The best thing for the Jews is to remain as low profile as we can. Rav Elchon Wasserman, may H-shem revenge his blood, wrote a pampthlet about this called, "The Time of Moshiach". But what can we do? We are tops in everything and very far from low-profile. If someone where to come from a different planet and know nothing about the Earth and just read the papers and listen to the media for a day or two, and throw in some science journals he would think that we were the overwhelming majoriy. One percent? Who would believe it? Certainly all this Jewish Jewish Jewish business isn't good. Read Rav Elchonon's book and see what I mean. (He was one of the biggest of the rabbanim during WW2, and was kolled in the camps.)

We are in the beginning of the redemption now and G-d's message to mankind should come out. What makes this boy so special is not just his voice, but his kedusha. His inner sanctity and good character traits shine out and impress all of the peoples of the world. The peoples should be able to see that this is coming through the Jewish People. Then if they want to find more sanctity (i.e. G-dliness), they will have a direction where to look. " On that day, Hashem will be one and his name will be one" throughout the world.

Bring a musician and band leader for fifty-one years, I know musical talent when i see and hear it. Edon did a great performance. It was great to see him with his kippah on. I hope he goes all the way to win it all.

Howie's comment was in very poor taste and, for me, as a Jew, was embarrassing.

Edon is a huge kiddush Hashem. The comments that are being made about him as a person by the judges is a credit to what a mench he is. Way to go to his parents for raising such a fine young man. Regardless of how he progresses in the show, he has made a kiddush Hashem by his humility and midos. Good luck Edon!! We're all rooting for you!!

In last week's competition, Howie Mandel praised Edon by trying to make a joke, first referring to his Bar Mitzvah (okay, no big deal) and then saying something like "Jew (instead of saying "You") gave a good performance." That Howie Mandel is himself presumably Jewish did not make the joke funny.

The only question about Howie Mandel's joke is whether it's funny or not, because it's certainly not offensive. To be offensive one must examine the joke teller's intentions, and clearly Howie, as a proud Jew, would not want to offend a fellow Jew on national television. GROW UP STEVE and good luck Edon.

First of all, something is offensive if it offends someone, and Mandel's comment offended me. It was in bad taste and inappropriate. Why? Because substituting "Jew" for "You" in a sentence is a common practice of anti-Semites. See the 1992 film "School Ties" for an example. Now, I don't believe that Howie Mandel is an anti-Semite; he's just not funny. And if you find that his repeating an anti-Semitic expression is funny, then shame on you.

I understand your point of view, but I see this differently. I don't care what I'm called, be it Jew, Yid, even Kike. I'm proud to be one. If anyone thniks labeling me as a Jew is a slur, that's their problem. I wear my name proudly.

How absurd Steve! You may feel things to be offensive, but that doesn't mean that they are. If a 4 year old has an aunt who is pregnant learns that as the baby grows the woman's belly appears bigger sees an overweight woman and asks her if she's pregnant too, is that child being offensive? The very root of the word is similar offense, meaning something that one actively does. If you choose to be offended by something that's not meant as offensive then shame on you.

Using your poor example, no adult should be offended by a statement from a four year old, because a four year old doesn't know any better. But Howie Mandel is not a four year old, and he should know better than to use a common anti-Semitic slur. Jew apparently found it funny. I didn't. I found it offensive.

Steve David...yes it was funny...lighten up. I see the brilliant smile and joy lighting this handsome boy's face, and I feel a joy any parent would recognize. Yes, he is an observant Jew...but Muslim, Catholic, or atheist would diminish not one iota of the talent and feeling Edon displays every note he sings or plays. We are all better for having had the experience of sharing this moment with him. It is merely a bonus for those who feel a sharing with him that he is a Jew.

I think he made a kiddush hashem now just by appearing with his yarmulka as a proud jew. but I hope he doesnt win so he is spared the nisyonos. and we are spared the embarresment

My children and I have been watching this show from the beginning. Imagine their delight in seeing a singer with a kippah walk out onto the stage and belt one out. My 11 daughter wants to marry him!

I think Edon is good for the Jews. Not any worse than Mattisyahu, definitely. But I do think that Howie Mandel's pun at the end is pretty bad for the Jews.
