Ho ho.That was what we call a "feel-good" scene. Anyway, hate speech can be combatted in two essential ways as I see it, neither of which involves law or government intervention. The exception to government intervention would be if the speech is inciteful of violence or definable discrimination. The two ways for making a change are: (1) Family Culture. Family is a mini-society, where values are imparted and transmitted. When these values are imbued with firm consistence from a young age they make a strong impression on the next generation, about what is considered acceptable. -right and wrong - and what to care about. This really is lifelong "training". It has its effects on attitude (love/hate) for generations. This is seen in every culture and every era. (2) Media. Drive a message home thru media influence over and over enough and it will also affect a change. It is much like peer pressure on an enormous scale. Ethnic jokes, anti-gay remarks, all that, is now totally socially unacceptable, mainly becaue of the repeated message pounded into our heads by the media. So are all attitudes, whether moral or not. It is vey powerful. I believe sociological studies will back both of these up. I also believe that the first of these (Family)will essentially remain static and not create mass change, because hate is so ingrained -and perpetuated - in various circles, groups and "tribes". Moshiach, on the other hand, now THAT will make a difference. Kel nekamos Hashem.
