In this day and age, I don't think it's very smart to give non-Jews fodder to laugh at us with. It would have been funnier with an audience of Jews - it's safer when we are laughing at ourselves. The women would have been laughing, at least... My husband can barely use a plunger, and I'm like, give me that thing! BAM BAM BAM Done! (Yes I converted to Judaism)

This guy, Modi, is so funny!!! I almost got a stomach ache from laghing so hard. My parents are Russian, so that part is funny. And Modi is telling the truth! I mean, the only time my father steps foot into Home Depot is on Sukkos and he has no idea how to describe what he needs!
August 12, 2008 2:54 PM
OMG!! Does this guy have a DVD or something? He totally rocks! I was laughing so SO hard.

I have watched this sketch by Modi atleast 100 times, cannot get enough of it! In these depressing times, please let us have more videos by him. I am from Holland and the Dutch are not really known by their sense of humor...modern cabaret mostly consists of dirty language and swearing - so please give me Modi!!!He is so wonderful!

I'm Jewish. I grew up in apartments. When something needed fixed, you called the super. My Gentile wife simply doesn't understand the plight of the Jewish "handyman".

SO True...Extremely funny!
I laughed so hard!!! I swear Modi was talking about my husband! and a buddy of his was the knoweldgeable non-Jew...right down to "I'll tell you who you SHOULDN'T use...!"
November 29, 2006 7:50 AM
atleast when we make fun of ourselves it makes sense, I think that's why it's funny because we can relate to what he's saying!
November 28, 2006 7:07 AM

Why, oh why, oh why, is anything that mocks Jews getting an automatic funny pass" Say this about any other group, and it will fall flat? Did you notice where people laughed? The Russian humor got some noise, but the jokes re "Jew" brought the house down. Now why, is this on Aish? No, it's not cool to hate yourself. It's boorish. Well, its one way for Jewish humorists to beat an easy path to success: make fun of the Jew is self deprecating stlye, and you'll have it made. It fulfills latent antisemitism in a most acceptable fashion!

universal commedy or agony
he he he thought we (in Africa) were the only victims of poor contractors, seems like it is a universal experience only replacing Russian immigrants for Angolan or Congolese contractors ...still getting used to the novelty of somwhat ¨wavy¨walls. Thanx for the laughter.

Great Sense of Humor!
Ignore the Russian offensive stuff. I am Russian and have been involved with Second City in Chicago. Modi you are very funny. Who better than to make fun of Russian Jews than an American Jew with a Russian background! Keep up the good work and let us know when you will be in Chicago.

I Married the One Jewish Boy Who Fixes Things
The contractor he worked for (another Jew who was a commodities broker before making aliyah) payed my husband to take an Arabic course so they could both know what the Arab workers were saying. Shortly after finishing that, he found a job at Machon Lev, a yeshiva/technical college, and became part of a maintenance staff of religious Jewish guys who all love fixing things. Modi, if you come to Israel, maybe we can find you a kablan (contractor).
