Priceless!

I love this commentary. It's taking the mickey out of ordinary Jews who are intolerant of their own kind - and it's about time! How can Christians be expected to support an Eruv if non-orthodox Jews don't! For God's sake - yes His sake - lighten up!!! How can so many people be so damn selfish!! I don't even live in the US so I have nothing to gain - but I am a Jew and it sickens me to see this kind of intolerance among Jews.

Ring Around A Not so Rosy Community ?

Imagination is funny --it makes the cloudy day sunny--but circumventing the kosher laws for such an imaginary cause is akin to pushing the envelope beyond what's intended & one has to be careful of who is offended ? What say you ?

You may have misunderstood Jerald....

The Eruv has no ties to the laws of Kosher, it simply allows Jews to carry on Sabbath (inc. pushing strollers...) by making the entire area into one domain for the purposes of Sabbath (B/C Jewish Laws prohibit carrying from one domain to another on Sabbath).

the guy's not jewish. what laws were they circumventing exactly? A non-jew is alowed to eat as many treif things as he wants - yes even on television.

you should be ashamed of yourselves for ridiculing a devoted people!! how much longer will the world joke and poke and make fun of something ........they JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND??? I think it's RUDE and and self-serving. Let the people be a people and let them have the God they want....with their Eruv. What's it to you?

Did you not pickup the fact that he was making fun of the people opposing the Eruv while claiming to be open-minded? And saying the Hamptons are for everyone except the Orthodox?

KIRUV Shelley!

Rather than complain about the joking, one should focus on the reality of the situation: There are in fact antisemetic Jews and Shelley should be ashamed of that instead of the projection that such exist by the goyim. If they didn't exist, this show would never have been. When I was looking for my job in a new city, only the Jewish agencies would not allow me to have Shabbat and Yomim tovim off. Every xtian one permitted it and said, "We have no problem with that." Obviously, my religion did not interfere with the job but the Jewish agencies claimed it did. They were just hateful of the observant because the observant are the "tzitzit" of their lives. (The reminder that they are not following the mitzvot.)

welcome religious jews in my neighborhood

I welcome religious jews to move into my neighborhood. They are family people who take care of their homes and their neighborhoods. They are an assest to any community. Yes, they keep to themselves and although there may be that % as in any group or generalization that are they are nor a violent group or a hateful group.

"Religious Jews", what an oxymoron. What makes us Jews, the bagels, or is it the Torah? As someone who has come from a totally secular Jewish upbringing to a Torah observant life now at 50 years of age, I can say with complete understanding, we need to stop hating who we are and afraid of those who do know who we are, Jews acting like Jews.

Who is right?

Lets be honest. I live in flatbush and the religious Jews here are loud, rude and selfish. They pat themselves on the back that they're wonderful. Boro Park is even worse. The people of the Hamptons dont want low class people there

Where do I begin

A. Interesting you post this on a site dedicated to getting people more religious. B. I don't think putting up an eruv in the Hamptons will lower the price of housing to such a low number that your average Chashish Kolel family with 8 kids will be able to move in. C. You are correct that religious Jews, like all people, can be rude selfish, and avoid looking at negative aspects of their community. D. Isn't it a little bit ironic that a show hosted by a non-religious intermarried Jew showed the hypocrisy of non-religious Jews towards religious Jews?

Steven: I live in Sharon, MA -not in another country. The town is mostly Jewish with three Orthodox Synagogues, and we all live in peace and respect with our less religious Jewish brothers and systers, and non-jewish neighbors. Are you sure you are not prejudiced?

The People of the Book don't need anti-semites, we have people like Steven and the fellow on the show. If you don't like the Jews in Flatbush or Boro Park, move. I hear they feel the same way about Jews as you do in Iran.
