G-d runs the world the best way. if we think we would run the world better we are wrong. G-d has a plan for everything we don't always understand it because we are here on this earth for only a breif period of time and G-d has always been here and will be here for all eternity

The problem with Bruce

It was indeed a laughfest. Unfortunately, it was also a foul language fest. Evan Almighty was much better in that regard.

If I were God I would bring world peace .I would break down the walls that seperate people in this world and all souls woulds be unified although different . All problems would not be that big because there would be a unifing spirit connecting all . All would know it . I would rid evil and only goodness would rule . Love would be the most unifying thing to all people. Sin would be bannished. Light would rule and there would be no shadows . I would redecorate the earth with buildings made of jewels and gold out of the highest mountains and light and beauty would illuminate from them . They would be majestic. I would build a highway going to the east gate of Jerusalem , it would circle the whole earth and be made of pure gold so that all nations could come to it. I would plant healing things for all people. I would make all people planters and builders and creaters. I would create a beautiful mighty river that would flow all around the earth ,filled with healing waters for all people. Because of the healing waters trees and plants would grow from it on each side , the leaves would heal the nations from sin. I would beautify people and they would reflect like a glowing flame, light like the sun would flow through them . The light would be as love flowing out. Thats would I would do, bannish suffering evil death hatred and let the good rule.

First, to all the people who thought this smacked of Christianity...lighten up. This was just what it was, a movie, a VERY FUNNY movie. It had a message, of course, that we all know what we would do if we were God...but would we REALLY do what the real Creator has done?

If I was in charge of the Universe (and I thank God that I'm not) I'd bring about universal peace so instead of wasting our precious resources warring, preparing to war, and hating others simply because of who they are...well, you get the point.

I sometimes question whether there even is a God because of all the horrible things that people dream up to do to others. The Holocaust! Why would a sane God permit that?

Then I see all the good people can and do for each other. So there's the other side of God.

Methinks that Bruce Almighty should go down as one of the best movies of all times for one reason alone: It is a laughfest and what can be wrong with laughter?

The movie's premise
While "Bruce" contained a lot of valuable messages (I loved the scene where Bruce is driving in the rain and shouts, "give me a sign!" and a truck carrying signs saying, "turn back", "wrong way" etc. cuts him off), the premise of the movie is extremely problematic for us as Jews. In the movie, G-d is depicted simply as a very powerful being... e.g., operating within the universe and defined by His ability to perform wonders. If such a premise were true, then we could say that G-d's powers could be given to another, or acquired/developed by another being. That is tantamount to idolatry. Christianity's mistaken belief that their leader is G-d is based on the fact that he had "powers." A Jew's belief is that G-d is One, and there is **nothing** besides Him. The universe is an expression of His will and would not exist without Him.

I enjoyed the movie more & more with each viewing-
Appreciated 7's comments and agree wholeheartedly. 4 & 5 - the movie has nothing to do with the Christian religion as far as I can recall. It's about G-d telling this guy, Bruce, "Look, if you don't like the job I'm doing- try it and see if you can do any better!" I think I'm going to go rent it again!

I've seen the movie and enjoyed it. But, if you watch closely there is another message. First, I wouldn't want G-d's job. Second, I could never do it as well. G-d gave us all free will. G-d can't make us love and respect one another. This is something we have to learn for ourselves. Only in this way will the true Messiah finally come. So, thank for the offer....but, no thanks...

Come on Jewlarious, Bruce is a commentary -good or bad- on the christian rreligion. We Jews do not believe in a man-god to do miracles. Hashem gave each and every one of us the potential to change the world, but we must start with ourselves FIRST. We can all be ALMIGHTY, if we reach for the stars, just as Hashem promised Abraham, "I will make your children as the stars in the Heavens...". Our hearts should forever look up to Faith in Hashem, but let us not forget that He put us here to "work" the land, ie the planet and make it a better place for the children of Adam, and that's US.

I like the movie
I have watched this movie so many times, because I felt what Bruce felt. When things don't go my way, I get upset and ask G-d why. But I have learned that G-d loves me and just want me to keep in touch with Him often. He taught me that all disappointments lead to good appointments. And His Will is perfect. If I was G-D, I would do what He is doing now. It's perfectly alright with me.

If I was G-D, I would do exactly what He is doing now. There are reasons that we do not understand about why the way things are being run, but He knows these reasons and therefore those things are happening. G-D does not have the limited mental capabilities as a human being. He is all powerful and all knowing. If I had his abilities, I would run the world exactly the way He is running it now!

big question!
If I were G-d, I would certainly want to do for the world what I feel is right for nature and humanity. It's a big question to ask, since it most likely comes with a lot of responsibility to determine whether to answer people's prayers for either granting or denying.
