(9) DD, 22/11/2007 Here's an example I don't know why I was supposed to find this funny...I think there are people like me who will continue to feel very raw and sensitive about terrorists...and they're NOT dead (not enough of 'em, at least), and they are quite a worrisome commodity. Still, jokes help alleviate a feeling of helplessness or depression about someone's state of oppression. The Russians have always been at the forefront of these kinds of jokes, to help them feel a little lighter about their lives. This one just in from a friend who formerly resided in the USSR: "Do you know that the soldiers of the great Russian Army have been instructed about what to do in the event of a nuclear attack?" (ME: "Really? THere's something they can do?") "One must stand perfectly straight and grasp your Kalishnikov Rifle across both hands horizontally and thrust it out in front of you at full arm's length." (ME: "And that will do what exactly?") "Well, the Military is of course very concerned about destroying government property, and when the rifle starts melting, it should not get all over their boots." Okay, this is real humor in the vein we are getting at here, I think.
(8) Shuli, 21/11/2007 Humor- a way to deal with pain This reminds me of a commedy show I saw in Israel where at the end of the show the commedy news caster said "and the final news of the day is.... Iran has set of the nuclear bomb. So there will be no show next week. Good bye."
Sometimes, life is so hard that you can only deal with it by making jokes of it....like people did during the Holocaust.

Blasphemy aside, this guy is funny. In general, I imagine humor allows people to touch on sensitive topics because, quite frankly, humor feels good---so it can cancel out the negative feelings one would feel talking about those things in a normal conversation. And, for example in this case, the fact that nobody really likes terrorists that much means that mocking them turns from from being "terrifying terrorists" into funny ones. Not that all humor is justified---some can be offensive. But it makes "bad" things seem less so.

(5)Anonymous, 20/11/2007 in this case because... 1- terrorism is big and scary. humor releases tension and helps us deal with topics that are too difficult to look at head on. 2- the media is too chicken and politically correct to talk about what is. hope this is a step towards dealing with it before it's too late.

(3) Will, 19/11/2007 Jeff is great I have a video of this guy on my MySpace profile, he is one of the best I have seen. The funniest things in life are true. When the fact are presented in a humorous way we can even laugh at ourselves, and that gets rid of the bitterness. I wish we could all get along and laugh together about our differences.
