come on, just because you can't program your VCR doesn't mean we should stop with technology... people just are lazy to learn and change with the times.

And of course common sense is authorized anytime you use technology.

Sometimes it's just a quick gag.
The Office has many underlying tones that those of us who work in grey cubilces can appreciated on many levels. Having said that, it's also simply entertaining to watch. Why, most of us would turn before going into the water..then again some people may not and receive what they derserve. At the end of the day... it's funny?

storms in life = preparedness
what happens when the power goes out anywhere for more than 12 hours? Just how dependent are we on the 'relatively' older technology of simple electricity? Use the modern conveniences judiciously but now how to get along without them as well - someday we may have to.

Using Tools Wisely
Technology is helpful but it is a TOOL - not a substitue for intelligence. Michael's mistake was in accepting directions too literally without thinking. His friend in the car used the tool correctly: accepting the hint but clarifying it with his own knowledge and intelligence. Forbiding all technology is not the solution for stupidity; Michael will just get himself in trouble a different way. He should learn to THINK.

GPS is blind
You can't always get to where you are going using the modern technology of the GPS. For example, my 85 year old father-in-law was in Israel and wanted to drive from the north of Israel to Jerusalem by himself in a rented car and set the GPS to guide himself there. The problem was that the GPS did not know that Jenin is forbidden territory for the Jews to enter and he found himself driving into Jenin before someone stopped him and directed him to Jerusalem by another route. No matter how "intelligent" these gadgets may be, the human mind will triumph over them any time.

Not only that, but the intense promulgation of websites such as facebook, myspace, youtube,blogs etc, show that ppl are devoting more and more time to their online community and friends and not real life!

Humans are fallible by nature. Divine machinery (the head and the heart) can never be replaced by man made gadgets. Is there any machine to replace our instincts? - It'lll never happen!

technology and adaptation
Technology involves adaptation and transitioning from old means to new ways of life. However, it can be easy to get frustrated when technology malfunctions creating errors. It may depend on one's youthfulness on adapting to technology, and/or it could be too complicated for older individuals. At best with technology, there ought to be a good flow of it, as opposed to running into its headaches of malfunctions and errors that are difficult to comprehend, even for technological experts attempting to fix slightly older technological equipment, such as PCs with Windows 98, or a car that is 5-10+ years old.

Well, machines and any other technological devices were created to make our lives easier, but they will never replace human relationships and certainly we should keep using our common sense, otherwise they will eat us alive!

Gotta think...
The problem isn't in the technology itself, but in how we look at it and use it. The driver's display screen needed one additional thing on it -- the word "THINK" in large letters. When we assume that all computers are smarter than we are, we're setting ourselves up for a dunk in the lake.

All of us use and will continue to use electronic and computerized devices. It behooves us to reflect on our personal circumstnaces of how technology can enhance our relationships, or damage them. Being able to call a loved one as I walk done the street might? be enhancing that relationship, but what about the ability to be spontaneous to the people around me and the envireonmnet around me.
The need to consider this became most apparent to me when the jail that I was working at assisting with intake of inmates "upgraded" by purchasing electronic Blood pressure taking machines. They are so impersonal, and I quickly realized that I lacked the opportunity to touch (which can have a calming effect)the "patient" to get his pulse and blood pressure. It is more time efficient, so I use it, However, if a patient is particularly uneasy I may use the manual method of getting the pulse and blood pressure, just for its secondary (touching) advantages.
I have never driven into a lake, Thank G-d.

Bottom Line
Anonymous, where is your head, the bottoom line is G-d gave man the ability to use our heads. We should listen to others and we should not let our minds get swayed with things that are not real like other gods or in our world machines.
We have a hard enough time listening to each other and understanding each other. Now we are listening to idols- machines.
This office was funny and good. Michael is like G-d watching over us in his ways, but his heart is good. He gets to the point and shows us the kind of good man he is. He in a way shows us the same thing that G-d does: We think that G-d is sometimes off, or doesn't care, or why does he not do it our way, but the reality G-d know better lets us do obscure things, and shows us, that as man, we matter more than any other object. And when we put our hearts in man that is not good, but if we put our hearts in a machine, we are screwed up.
We should keep our thoughts to what is important. And this episode teaches us that. ****in my opinion.
It is not common sense, it is faith and trust in G-d that makes us have care about each other, This makes us lead to making the right decisions.
Common sense has nothing to do with it. Knowing G-d, faith and trust,with his wisdom and understanding gives us the decisions to have common sense.
Give the credit to where it goes, G-d,the writers of the office, and us, for understanding of what this good episode was about

Come on guys.... a little common sense is what's needed here. Life is about combining, balancing, extracting the positive from the negative. Good from Bad. Balancing New/Old .Humanity/technology.Zealotry/Tolerance. Tikun is about putting it all back together in the proper proportions. And without some common sense, it just can't be done!
