2/18/2008 8:00:00 PM Look a little closer
To the first two comments above, maybe you should watch the clip again. First, he never claims to have any "mystical" ability and does in fact freely admit that what he does is not paranormal - it is trickery. Listen to what he's saying! He doesn't reveal how he does it because that would ruin the mystery for those who observe. No mentalis will ever reveal thier secrets - why should they? If he was saying he had a 'paranormal' ability I'd be right behind you screaming at 60 minutes for showing this. Secondly, where is your proof that he's compensated members of the audience and had them sign non disclosure agreements? None. And so what if he has? Chris Angel does the same thing - as all illusionists do.

2/6/2008 6:05:00 PM What a Charlatan
I'm ashamed at 60 minutes for popularizing this Charlatan further. Not only is he a liar and phoney, his tricks are just an unimaginative rehash of gimmics that have been used for generations. How did he "see into the future" to determine the number on the card? Easy. He selected before-hand members-to-be in the audience and had them sign a non-disclosure claus. He then has them come on stage and write out the number he told them to (and then act astonished, of course.) Salem and his ilk have been known to regularly place adds in newspapers for "extras" in their shows.
I wouldn't have a problem with Salem if he admitted it was all just a trick, but he's perpetrating the lie that he has some mystical ability that cannot be observed or tested under scientific circumstances.
If he were a true mentalist, believe me, he'd be working for the FBI or CIA.

To the comment above me. I completely agree with your comment as a matter of fact I was picking up on the exact same things that you mentioned.
For example in the vacation trick, Marc said "I see sandy shores." Well who basically doesn't when they go on vacation. If the lady said no then he could of immediately said, no wait it's a snowy mountain. He does a lot of tricks used by "psychics" I think its called middle reading

4/30/2007 8:27:00 PM The real truth
He is amazing. What he is is a magician who does magic with the mind.Very little of what you see is non verbal communication, psychology, suggestion...... This psychology idea is just an angle that he has taken which is fine but to tell people thats how it's done after the show is a little distastefull.
And to the magician: you know a little but don't make imperative statements on tricks you don't understand.
I am pretty knowledgable in psych,Mind reading, magic, illusion,,... so if any body has any serious questions please ask.

I am a polygraph and voice stress analyst and he could have put me out of my profession at any time. I was trained to interpret body language but not to this degree or method. WOW is an inadequate word to describe his technique.

1/21/2007 9:02:00 AM This is all basic magic
I am a magician, I can tell you that everything he did is simply a basic magic trick done well. The book reading trick is an old one (notice they chose from his preselected books - why didn't he ask an audience member to bring in his own book if he's truly magical?). Meir Yadid sells the trick if you want it. Reading the serial number of a bill without looking is easily because they all start with the same numbers. The rest can be done with a basic little receiver in his ear and a camera man talking to him. As for guessing a womans vacation, he was wrong and said asia. Remember, every guess right is equal to every guess wrong (regardless of how personally you may take the "right" guess). If he guesses one right and one wrong he's back to 0. I can do that without even opening my mouth :) As for the lying, thats a trained profession - you can't lie to a psychiatrist either but they don't claim to be magicians. As for the number, the woman works for him and wrote a predetermined number. Otherwise why wouldn't he let the 60 minutes guy add up the numbers??? See how easy it all is when you know how its done?
