Certainly, Israel has a lot to be proud of in terms of its advances in many different fields. However, if for arguments sake we assume that Israel never achieved any of this and was actually one of the lowest achieving countries in the world, would that be any less reason to support Israel? Surely we should support Israel simply because it is a Jewish state in the Jewish land and not because of the number of great inventions, however magnificent, it has produced.

I read a book called--"Pioneer Jewa". I don't remember who wrote it, but I opened my eyes to how much the Jews helped settled this country. I think they first came over here in the 1640's. The people here welcomed them. They even worked in the government. They were the main ones who helped Washington win our independents. They helped during the Civil war also. A great summary of Israel's achievements. One thing needs to be added to it though: an explanation of why every man, woman and child of this amazingly modern and successful nation should continue to get a donation of $ 2 per day from the hard-pressed taxpayers of the USA.

One of the things I love about Torah is the concept that doing a mitzvah is best if it's uncredited. I get sick and tired of people always belittling Israel by saying that any accomplishments is solely due to US aid. People conveniently forget Egypt got the same aid thanks to Camp David. If one can't give aid without expecting Israelis to grovel maybe there shouldn't be any aid given.

Hey Anonymous, I am the last person that would want a state run like muslims have but I would actually like to have a different selling point for own people besides its industrial achievements. Remember what happened in the 80's when the economy went sour? People left. But if you have a nation that is proud of itself, and is built on some key values, then for worse or better, people will stay and be proud of her. Again, one video like this is fine. There is nothing new about this video. These types of videos are everywhere on youtube. I am a proud Israeli, but there is something that doesn't sit too well with me with these videos. The majority of this video is about material accomplishments. What if tomorrow, Israel lost all these material accomplishments. No more start up companies. Its hi-tech industries fall from world recognition....what would you be proud of next? No, there needs to be something more foundational that we should show to the world. Specifically, our values and our message of monotheism. Don't get me wrong, every nation needs these sort of accomplishments, but it can't be that this is all what we are constantly making videos about. There is so much internal problems in Israel. Secular vs Charedi, question of whether zionism is alive or dead etc etc etc. I don't see Israel functioning so well in the future unless its identity and values are put forth first to its OWN citizens, then the world. I would prefer videos that show Israeli citizens united in their identity, know the mission of the Jewish people in the world along with its values...and as a side point, mention that we are awesome in the material aspects as well. Like a Rose in the Desert! She is a blessed and beloved country even while facing the hardships that keep clamoring to blot her from the earth...When I think of Israel, my heart sings and a love forms in my being for her...

I wonder, given all these accolades, how we reach humility? I just saw the film Waltz with Bashir, about the War in Lebanon, about a terrible massacre, and so I am saying, YES, I love you Israel, but Israel has others living within her borders and they too, have hearts and minds. And so I am saying, let it be PEACE somehow and let us figure this out because it's been too long, too much suffering, too much sadness on both sides. And there will be no refuge for us, unless we take care of all the refugees, and so maybe it's a world problem, and a deep humanitarian need, to find a solution that truly works, so this will finally STOP.

Makes me proud to live here. I hope others join me because of this or the many other reasons a Jew has to live here. Yasher Koach.

Israel is not officially Jewish, from what I understand, just like the U.S. is not officially Christian. Israel is Jewish in that it is a refuge for Jews. Also, I would really love to have at my fingertips the sources of the cited stats.

This video sells short the Jewish People's claims to Eretz Israel. Since pre-Bibilical times, there has never been a century when Jews were absent from their ancestral homeland. Namely, there were always many Jews in the Middle East (circa one million in 1900) and always some Jews living in their ancestral homeland around the Jordan River. Of all extant Peoples, the Jewish People has the strongest claim to be aboriginal to Israel. And, the Jewish People never lost its continuing demographic links to the Holy Land. All this talk about a return after 2,000 years has been used by Israel's enemies. It is also a sad reflection of the arrogance and ethnocentrism of Ashkenazim who tend to ignore the importance of Jewish history in Israel and the Middle East during the centuries from Roman rule through the Arab caliphates to the Ottoman period. This kind of Ashkenazic myopia makes for bad history and also a relatively weaker claim to the land. Time to be smarter about how we understand history and how we frame legal arguments.

My comment is to Nathan, why would it bother christians? I am a christian and I do love Israel and pray for her safety. Lot's of christians in the US prays for Israel. She is a amazing country. G-d Bless the country and keep her safe.

Great clip. However, the last "fact" that's mentioned in it is wrong. From its conception through its founding and until this very day, Israel has never been defined as a Jewish state in the religious sense. It is not governed by religious Jewish law; even the law of return does not apply purely on a religious basis. Israel is a Jewish state not like Iran is a Muslim state, but rather like France is a french state. It is the state of the Jewish people, not of the Jewish religion. Accordingly, its conflict with its Arab neighbours is rightfully reffered to as the "Arab-Jewish\Zionist", and not "Muslim-Jewish" conflict. It is beyond me why Aish would make this mistake. Please excuse the critical tone. Other than this, its actually a great clip.

Very good snippet of how Israel is 'a light unto the nations.' Absolutely amazing what this tiny country has achieved and still achieves in spite of all the adversities and opprobrium heaped upon it.

Israel is always the first country to respond and help when other countries are facing calamities. Examples: Earthquake in Haiti, Turkey, Mudslide in Venezuela, etc.
