Norman Finkelstein Loses It

The anti-Israel professor stormed off the air during a debate, calling the moderator “a certified moron”

Controversial anti-Israel professor Norman Finkelstein abruptly stormed off the air during a debate, calling the moderator, Dr. Alan Mendoza, “a certified moron”

Finkelstein, author, most recently, of Method and Madness: The Hidden Story of Israel’s Assaults on Gaza, began to hurl epithets about halfway through the 17-minute segment. These included accusing his debate partner, Jewish historian and Aish HaTorah lecturer Ken Spiro, of promoting “Israeli propaganda” at the expense of facts.

The two were supposed to be debating the notion that Israel is held to a double standard. It devolved into a diatribe. Watch the video below – thing heat up about halfway through.

Mr. Finkelstein ...

speaks the TRUTH and has become a convenient whipping boy.

Good Job Ken!

This was classic lunacy of Norman Finkelstein, a self hating individual, who has lost all common sense and moral sense. Thank you Ken Spiro for tolerating the diatribe from Mr. Finkelstein and standing up for Israel

Finkelstein is not an Historian

As Wikipedia points out, Dr Finkelstein was granted a PhD from Princeton. He has held tenure, but was subsequently removed. Nonetheless Dr Finkelstein is an academic with credentials in Political Science. Rabbi Spiro has an MA in History (as his website claims). They are not both Historians. I think its important to realize that regardless of whether one feels Finkelstein's claims are correct or not (I entirely disagree), it would be more helpful to engage with the evidence that he is using. For a start, Finkelstein's point begins by intimating that there is no standard in the UN. This isn't true. Every sub-section of the UN has its own charter, and often they're set up based on Security Council resolutions, which outline the major legal definitions that each body is mandated to oversee. So when Israel is criticized in the Security Council, the question becomes which Statute of the UN Charter is it violating, how and why, and what international legal violation is this being committed. Israel is not a full member of the ICC. Does the UN Security Council opine every act of violation of the UN Charter? Actually it does not. The question then becomes why not, and what is the modus operandi of the criticism? Its actually obvious, while th PLO has gained traction from its observer status, in the last 50 years or so, many Arab nations in the SC actually use the SC to draw attention away from their own human-rights violations. This is the point. As regards Finkelstein's other point that Resolutions against Israel would be meaningful if Israel actually listened to them is also spurious. No state is obligated to follow any Security Council resolution that has been vetoed by the Permanent Council Members. So Israel's lack of response is perfectly in line with the UN Charter, and International Law. Rabbi Spiro's point however does remain unsubstantiated. One should actually define a double standard. For example Darfur is clear example of the standard.

Norman Finkelstein Needs to Calm Down

Finkelstein's obsessive rage with the Jewish State really calls into question his reliability as a legitimate critic and observer. Just because his name is "Finkelstein" doesn't absolve him of being examined just like every other anti-Israel mouthpiece. MANY people acknowledge that Israel is far from a perfect state, but I think many reasonable people can appreciate that when it comes to human rights, you deal with the WORST FIRST. Israel doesn't even come close on that list.

Only one person brain dead in this debate???

Norman Finkelstein is the only person brain dead in this debate! I have never seen such biased one sided rhetoric even during the Apartheid Era in South Africa. He is worse than all the Apartheid proponents combined, only on the opposite left side. All he wanted to do his express his totally biased opinions, half truths, and lies etc. Maybe he needs reprogramming and to expand his reading matter?
I am very impressed with the moderator, I would have cut his video long before he did himself. Kol Hakavod to him.
