Judaism stresses education as the essential tool for gaining the ability to
take responsibility for the world. You cant represent the Jewish people unless you
know what the Jewish people represent. Ignorance is our biggest enemy.
Ignorance causes not only assimilation, but an inability to fulfill the Jewish mission individually and nationally.
The Torah provides this education.
Jewish education instructs how to become a model for the world,
a "light unto the nations." Learning Torah will help put you on that path.
BE A LIGHT
The root cause of
the world's problems is a lack of values. If the world were full of people who believed and lived
by the value of life, peace and harmony, justice and equality, education, family,
social responsibility and love, just think of how different the world would be! Be a light by living for
the values you stand for. Then, each and every
one of us can serve as a model for our fellow human beings.
JEWISH UNITY
No matter how much we
improve ourselves and grow toward our own potential,
we cannot change the world by ourselves. We must realize that
every Jew is part of a whole. Klal Yisroel - the Jewish people. We're all responsible for
each other. Every Jew is a piece of an incredibly powerful puzzle that together creates an entity, the Jewish People. Tikun Olam, perfecting the world, is collective - it is too big to do alone.
There's an Israeli folk song
that says:
"Each of us is one small light but together
we shine bright." As a "light to the nations," the Jewish People can shine
forth with the beauty of Jewish ideas and values. When that happens, the whole world
will say: "That's the way we want to be."
Without mutual respect and Jewish unity, it is impossible to achieve this goal.
