Melacha #16: TOVEH - SPINNING Av Melacha: Spinning wool to form a thread. Principle: Twisting fibers into a usable item. Toldah: Creating thread, twisting pieces of cotton into a wick. (Rewinding existing threads into a new, stronger rope is a prohibition of Melechet Kosheir.) Melacha #17: MAYSECH - WARPING Av Melacha: Positioning warp-threads on a loom. Principle: Placing threads into position for weaving. This includes arranging leaves for basket weaving. Melacha #18: OSEH BATEH NIRIN: SETTING UP THE LOOM Av Melacha: Passing warp-threads in a loom. Principle: Positioning threads in a way that enables weaving. Melacha #19: OREG: WEAVING Av Melacha: Putting weft (width-wise) thread through warp (length-wise) threads. Principle: Creating fabric by way of weaving. Toldah: Positioning a thread into a woven cloth, embroidery, crochet, needlepoint, or rug-hooking canvas; braiding the hair of a wig. It is prohibited to flatten out a loose thread in a woven sweater or garment by pulling it, as this is considered "weaving it back in." Melacha #20: POTZE'AH - UNWEAVING Av Melacha: Cutting woven threads in order to re-weave them in a different place. Principle: Removing or tearing threads in a woven material for a constructive purpose. It is prohibited to remove threads from a woven material, or to tear this material. Similarly, it is prohibited to remove the braids from a wig.
