Anti-Israel Brainwash

Jul 27, 2012 at 04:40:40 AM

Nicky Larkin is an Irish filmmaker who always identified as pro-Palestinian – wearing the fashionable PLO keffiyeh scarf... viewing Israel as the ogre… the whole nine yards.

Last year, Larkin received a grant to travel to Israel to make a film about the Palestinians. "My peers expected me to come back with an attack on Israel," he says.

Yet when he began to investigate, he realized that the facts didn't square with what he believed. He concluded: He'd been brainwashed by the media (and pro-Palestinian activists) to hate Israel.

"Any artist worth his or her salt should be ready to change their mind on receipt of fresh information," Larkin says. "I would urge all those artists who pledged to boycott Israel to spend some time there."

See this interview where the Irish filmmaker says how he "hated" Israel – until he actually bothered to investigate.

Love Israel

I support and pray for the peace of Jerusalem, I cannot be with your beloved people physically but I am most definetly with you spiritully and finanially. I pray the world will wake up to the plight of Israel. I have made a personel commitment to boycott the Coop in the uk, as I did not agree with there boycotting of some Israel goods.

The treatment of 'who'?

3 Anonymous' comment about the "treatment of Palestinians". It is the Palestinian terrorists who treat the Palestinians badly not the Israelis. The Israelis have to be so security minded so as not to be attacked or killed by Palestinians who's only goal is to kill Israelis, hence the constant bombardment of rockets into Israel. So the wording should really have read "what about the Palestinian treatment of Israelis".

Not at All Sophomoric

Anonymous thinks that Larkin is "Sophomoric" in his conclusions concerning Israel. In my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth. Larkin went to Israel with a mind made up, concerning the Palestinians and Israel, only to see with a most mature and open mind that what he was inculcated with was not the truth. He came away with a balanced view of both Israel and Palestine. His future articles and films will be better served from his introspective delving into the reality of Israel and Israel's position in the Middle East.

Is secularism Israel's only redeeming quality????

This person went to Israel looking to condemn it. He seems to have come to two realizations: 1) Tiny Israel is up against a sea of Arab/Muslim opposition so maybe they are the ones fighting for their existence. 2) Israel is not so bad because Israeli Jews are not all religious and Chasidic with "curls and beards" (at which point the commentator snickers). Would he still think Israel is a terrible place if he saw more Chasidm? Are the Chadisic and Charedi communities the ones who are "oppressing" what he considers the Palestinian analog to the Norther Irelanders? Or is his logic convoluted? What is it that he dislikes. So-called "oppression" or Jews who look too much like Jews?

Why don't we who pray for the peace of Jerusalem send more young people to visit Israel?

It may not happen so quickly with every person ,who has been fed with lies and half truths, whose view of Israel has been warped by misinformation. However, efforts must be ongoing and easily accessible for whoever is agreeable to go and see for themselves , to make this possible and subsidized for those who can't afford the trip unassisted. Israel has nothing to hide and very much to be proud of.Who knows what new and thoughtful and positive ideas could emerge from former foes becoming loyal friends. Not only Jewish people own the birthright for an opportunity to visit Israel!! The entire world needs to see , without the blinkers that expediency has covered their eyes with and deadened their power of clear thinking , that despite her enormous burdens ,that Israel shines in so many ways. Give some positive recognition to her and yes, some honest guidance too . What a changed vista that might ensure, both for her prosperity and that of her neighbours.
