so much hate

Mel stars in Great Movies, great actor...... bad apple that fell as close to the tree as possible. I've never understood all the hoopla about these people on our TV screens, thinking their opinions matter.

Gibson on Maccabee???

LOL!!! Who told Gibson that anyone would see a movie HE made about a jewish hero?! Who even gave him the idea that any involvement by him in such a project was acceptable?

Mel is a sad man who has not yet found peace in his own life so he tries to project his disfunction off on others.

Gibson the Maniac

Mel Gibson is sick in the head and so stupid!! Ignorant in every aspect. Uneducated full of hate.

Gibson...they picked the wrong man for the movie!!!

Mel Gibson is the last person on earth to give people a glimpse into the beauty of Judaism. Pick a strong presence orthodox Rabbi who understands the Hebrew language and the Torah, and you will have the greatist movie of the century.

Mel Gibson is like Muslims . The more the Jews fight the more the Muslims interpret this as weaknes from the part of the Jewish people. Gibson dwell in this as well. Let us remember that history proves that the Jews have survived every antiism since the beginning of history. Gibson is only reaching to the top of what the news media wants to make out of him. The poor guy will die some day and the Jews will keep living

Mel Gibson, an embarrassment

I am sure that there are Jewish men and women whom one would consider an embarrassment to their faith. Likwise, as a Christian, who has a love for Israel and the Jewish people . . . Mel Gibson is an embarrassment. Too bad the real Mel G. can't be like the role he played in Braveheart . . . a brave, courageous, man of integrity!

not too bright

No doubt he has talent. What he doesn't have is brains. I enjoy watching him in action movies. The roles fit him to a T! A badly mentally disturbed policeman; probably the same in life. In short : A SICKO

Mel & the Jews

How long will this foolishness go on? As a Jew, I have no ax to grind with the Christian believers, but the reverse does not seem to be true.Obviously, Mr. Gibson has a few unconnected wires when it comes to the Jewish people, but your continual criticism of him is not helping anyone. I have watched "The Passion of the Christ" a number of times & I have yet to understand what was so offensive. Please try to understand that Mr. Gibson is a Catholic & was basing his movie on Scriptures from his own Faith's Bible. Agree with the RCC or not, it is only logical that a thorough man would do so. Personally, I thought the chorus of Jewish protests made us sound like a bunch of whiners. Let's grow up, shall we?

Mel Gibson

Im not a big fan of Mel Gibson. How can a man have so much money and be such an antisemetic man specifically against jews.. A man with that lack of character should be poor not rich.

He needs professional help.

Mel Gibson is wrong. The Jewish people are only defending themselves. I love the Jewish. They have the right to live in peace in their land like everyone else. Shalom

Re: Why make the film at all?

1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees are both canonical books of the Bible for Roman Catholics. As a Catholic, Gibson would naturally see Maccabees as his story to tell. Just as his antisemitism does not prevent his claiming the entire Tanakh as part of his Bible, his antisemitism does not get in the way of his using the story of 1 and 2 Maccabees. Appropriate? No. Understandable? Certainly.

Janet, April 17, 2012 1:23 PM

Hi Everyone, I hope that people will realise that Mel Gibson is not speaking for the Catholic Church. I am a Catholic and love my fellow Jews. I seriously believe that Mel has a demon in him and needs lots of prayers. G-d Bless.

Why make the film at all?

Judah the Maccabee was one of the greatest heroes and warriors in Jewish history. Why would Mr. Gibson want to make a movie about him at all, given his apparent hatred to Jews and their culture. The story of Judah the Maccabee would make a fantastic film. Gibson is a talented filmmaker, and might have done a good job directing this type of film. However, I would rather see someone else tell this story. It would seem more appropriate for Gibson to tell the story of a different Judah and leave our cultural and historical heroes alone.

John Perel, April 24, 2012 11:53 PM

You are absolutely correct.

Mel Gibson has no business making a film about Judah Maccabee. I have already boycotted Gibson.....I would hate to boycott Judah Maccabee.
