Absolutely an honest, true statement about USA
We, citizens, are the only ones that create a problem where there is none. Lori hit the nail on dthe head. I have gone thru some of this nonsense with paperwork. The government will believe an alien before they will believe one of there own. I say this as a person who is the fourth generation born in the USA.

Being a Friend to Israel Only Factor?
Lori:I love all of your videos, but take exception to this one. There's nothing wrong with preferring life in the USA to life in Canada, but it a bit shallow to base your opinion solely on that factor alone. Yes, the US can be described as a grat friend to Israel, but what is the motivation? Is it because of a love of the Jewish people and their right to a state? Perhaps. But I think not. The US supports Israel strongly because at this point, Israel continues to meet the US's needs strategically. Well, that and the fact that the Christian right "needs" Israel to justify their own spiritual position. But the US, due to its weapons arsenal and financial power is the one country in the world with the greatest ability to influence the government of Israel. We've been lucky until now that for the most part, the US's desires and Israel's needs seems to average out at a "draw". On the other hand, Canada has shown unwaivering support for Israel the vast majority of time, and at this point, shows great support for Israel, including working towards establishing a free trade agreement with the state. Aside from that, other parts of life in the US seem to me to be completely contrary to what one would consider to be a "Jewish approach". Canada provides social medicare for its citizens - the US does not. Canada has a much strong network of social support programs aimed at helping those in need. No one here goes without medical care or medication, or for that matter, education. Anbd just try to get medical insurance if you're already sick!Again - nothing wrong with loving the USA, but I question your criterea and your values when it comes to your preference. (By the way, my late father (may he rest in peace) was an American, and so half of my family, as well as siblings, are also dual citizens.)

I have to point out, as an American living in Canada, having to write a cheque for every form is what makes *Canada* great, too!Is the US really Israel's best friend? Based on the recent UN Human Rights Council motion to make Israel a permanent agenda item, it was Canada who said 'no.' The US has a history of abstaining, rather than putting itself out there with a definitive 'no.'Yes, the US can be a very good friend to Israel. The US has also contributed strongly to the situation Israel finds itself in today.

WHAT??!! I don't believe this........
What does one have to do w/ another? How does your paperwork required by the U.S. Embassy and loving & being proud to live in the U.S. come together??? I am not so sure the U.S. was always as good to Israel as you are describing them to be. Don't get me wrong, the U.S. has done good for many nations, not only Israel; ...And yes, we should be thankful that U.S. is backing Israel right now, but don't you think you are exagerrating a bit? Remember this:ISRAEL HAS NO BEST FRIEND, ISRAEL'S BEST FRIEND IS HASHEM!!! ISRAEL DOES NOT NEED ANY OTHER BEST FRIEND!"Proud to live in the U.S.", proud for what exactly are you? I am not proud to live in the U.S. on the contrary, I am ashamed!!!!! ...Ashamed that I don't have the courage to pick up & go back home, like the rest of those brave Jews that make aliya; ashamed that I have all kinds of excuses (legitimate ones, but still); ...and what about intermarriage that our so-called "best friend" caused? I don't think it is right for you to advertise on AISH how proud you are to live in the U.S. Truthfully, I can not understand why Aish would let you post this video? Please write back, I am really puzzled.Rachel J.

I wonder what all the Jews used to say when they lived in Germany before the war? hmmm Hashem gave us the Torah to learn from and us Jews never get the message. History always repeats itself (just read Aicha and see pictures of the holocaust and you'll know what I mean) and as great as America is, we are so blind. Rebbetzen I have so much respect for you, I think you're wonderful and I can't wait every week for your next article but as a Rebbetzen who knows that Jews belong in Israel and history will repeat itself, until we understand that torah and mitzvoth should be kept in Israel, I was very unpleased to hear what you said. Yeah happy birthday America but that's all I give. Because I relay on Hashem to help us and not America.(with all due respect) make America your house if you want, but please don't make it your home. Because you will forget where you really live.Im an American because I was born there but I'm a Jewish Israeli because I was at "Har Sinai" and I have no other home.May we all get to see Geula very soon and all MOVE to Israel bekarov amen.

Born here, but not happy
America is in a downward spiral, and we are witnessing her end because of the arrogance of politicians and lobbyists, as well as corporate America. Drugs, violent crimes, hate groups, gangs, pornography, steady moral decline, laws against praying in school and reading passages from the Holy Scripture, corrupt courts, school violence, apathy towards those devastated by natural disasters by blame game finger-pointing, it's not my fault, criminals made out to be victims and we forget the real victims, unlawful people pouring into our country, our infrastructure crumbling, but pork barrel spending is politics as usual, that unless you can raise millions to be president you can forget it, when 90% of our college students admit to cheating and justify it by saying "everybody" does it, when they are into alcohol and partying to be accepted by their peers, when we pay huge salaries to ball players and celebrities that can only make stardom by breaking the Ten Commandments to sell a movie, that legal abortion -- You like America? Some of us don't.And America is Israel's friend? Several Presidents and their political cohorts have been pushing to divide Eretz Yisroel and to demand Israel's acceptance of concessions on the Palestinians' terms for the sake of peace! What peace? Things are far worse for Israel now and bad things are happening here in America because of it, and will continue to get worse.Americans need to wake up and do a reality check. The ancient prophets are on target, and only calamity awaits mankind -- we pray the Elders of Israel take heed to prophecy, especially Joel and Hosea for the terms HaShem demands in these latter days -- Otherwise, severe punishments will come before HaMashiach comes as was long ago prophesied by Moses and the rest of the prophets.

Hi Lori-I love your film on Happy Birthday America. I am an American who feels the same way about Israel .. If I could not be in America it would be Israel... is where I would want to live.. Israel could make it without America.. But America can not survive without Israel... I love the Jewish People... and I love Israel The apple of God's eye...Thank's for the great article...

Lori,I'm glad you finally made it here and like living in the United States. As I jew, I agree that we are Isreals best friend, but as an American, your desire to live here for that reason alone, is not enough. If thats the only reason you can think of to live here which makes you proud, then you make me very sad.

Couldn't Live in Israel?
Dear Lori, I usually like your videos (still don't like your advice about how to get what you want from your husband by going through the back door, so to speak), but I am scratching my head over this one.Living in Israel is a mitzvah, just like keeping Shabbos. I would never expect to open one of your videos and hear you say that you decided you couldn't keep Shabbos anymore. You are glad that you have America because you couldn't live in Israel. Also, what if America was not good to the Jews (I don't think America necessarily is; it depends on your definition of "good friend").Where, then, would you live?Your video reminded me sadly once again how attached a great number of Jews are to lands outside of Israel. I'm so sorry that you weren't able to stay in Israel. I wish you would consider coming home again. It would be wonderful to have you here. It could be your mitzvah again. I pray to Hashem that Jews all over the world realize that they can come to Israel for tours, for learning, for a variety of reasons, only because other Jews have made Israel their home. Without other Jews wanting desperately to fulfill the mitzvah of living in the land and doing so, there wouldn't be all that there is here--and it's a lot, Baruch Hashem.

O Canada We stand on guard for Thee
Canada might not have had a great record when it came to Israel in the past, as Lori says, but there has been a dramatic change with the election of the present Conservative government of Stephen Harper, and Canada today is just as pro-Israel than America, and probably even more so! Canada consistently votes with Israel at the UN and at last year's Francophonie (meeting of french-speaking countries), Canada refused to sign a motion expressing solidarity with the Lebanese victims of last year's Lebananon War, unless Israeli victims were also included. Perhaps Lori isn't, but thanks to The Honourable Stephen Harper, I am one proud Canadian! Lori, never forget your "Roots!"

Thank You From The Bottom of my HEART!!!
I watch Lori video Born in the USA. I wanted to thank her for making me more proud to be an American. I Love the Jewish State. We Americans are so HATED for relationship with the Jewish State. I cried watching your video.
July 3, 2007 9:26 AM
Gee, Lori, that was really nice!
While an earlier write wrote of all the bad things America has done, reprimands are probably not appropriate in a birthday message. America has done much that is wrong and much that is right. The "idea" of America (and the ideals which we perceive to be true-blue American ideals) gives us hope and the "fact" of America gives us the means of righting the our own wrongs. Thanks for the nice message, Lori and we miss you in Denver!

Hi, My sister just happens to be visiting from Toronto!I found this very funny, indeed, re the bureaucracy involved in coming to the US. I just watched the new Michael Moore movie about the state of health care which is in disarray here. So the part about the paperwork you had to go through to finally arrive was not such a surprise. It does seem that bureaucracy is taking over the universe. Thanks and yes, A Good July 4 to us all!

Sweet Happy Birthday
That was such a sweet Happy Birthday greeting! I sure do enjoy your little inspirational teaching videos.
July 3, 2007 6:19 AM
I'm so impressed by your usual videos that this one left me with my mouth hanging open... To feel gratitude to America for being good to Jews-- fine. But to honor America as Israel's best friend has nothing to do with us as a nation; what about the many horrific ways American mentality had affected our people, our youth, marriages, etc.? What about the article on Aish.com about the way the American producers of the documentary about Daniel Pearl butchered and twisted the entire event? That's American "liberalism" and "political correctness"--very nice characteristics that ultimately manifest as anti-semitism. Sorely disappointed that such a quality Jewish site could air something so inaccurate and so un-Jewish.
July 3, 2007 5:34 AM
I usually enjoy your videos Lori, but in this case I must disagree with you. The United States is not a very good friend to Israel. A good friend would not pressure their friend to do things that are detrimental like giving up important land or pushing them to negotiate with those who would like nothing more than to destroy Israel (Chas Veshalom). Or keeping an Israeli agent in jail for over 20 years now for something that usually has a 3-4 year sentence. Granted, the Israeli government has not done a great job itself. However, if you saw your best friend doing something not good for them, wouldn't you help them see sense and do what's truly in their benefit? I know the US supports Israel more than any other country, but in many respects it's just not good enough. Many times I find myself wishing that the US would just butt out.

G-D BLESS AMERICA!
I love the USA, it's a great nation and maybe the only loyal friend that Israel (and the Jewish people) has among the nations. I love the milkshake, hamburgers, fireworks on the 4th of July, busy high ways, the fields of Ohio and palms of California. It's a GREAT nation, thanks to conservative Evangelical Christians, whose moral values are so beautiful, and whose friendship with Israel is eternal. G-d bless America... and Americans, may you never forget to praise and obey Him

Israel is Israel's only best friend
Although I'm sure America appreciates Lori's gratitude, Israel is lacking in her presence. If she cant be in Israel? Nothing can REALLY keep a Jew from his homeland, only an obsticle. And what are obsticles? Those big scary things one sees when they take their eyes off the goal. Lori, I listen to all your shows, and am really inspired by you, and so i hope that you can come live with the REAL best friend of israel- ISRAEL.!!
July 2, 2007 10:37 AM
Hashem is the best friend Israel has in the whole world
I have listened to all your videos and have loved all but this one.I made Aliya 14 years ago and as an Israeli I feel that the US' support of the disengagement was our wake-up call to tell us to stop relying on our "best friend"- the USA, and start relying ONLY on Hashem- our Father, Protector and our Best Friend in the whole world.
July 1, 2007 11:44 PM
I missed something
I admit it, I missed something. What's the connection between the paperwork required by the U.S. Embassy and loving to live in the U.S.?
July 1, 2007 7:34 PM
Nice, Lori.Good points.
July 1, 2007 4:24 PM
America-good, too good
America is good to the Jews-too good. We are now coming too complacent. Israel is our real home and we should never forget that we are in galus. There is also plenty of anti-Semetism in the US-the KKK in the South, the neo-Nazis in the Midwest, etc. My mother was called a "dirty Jew" in her hometown of Detroit and bricks were thrown through the windows.
July 1, 2007 7:46 AM
On this merit
I have heard it said that the reason that America became so great, is because they were good to the Jews.
July 1, 2007 7:46 AM
ambiguity vs. simplicity among nations
It's great that the US understands Israel's decency in the world...Things ought to be kept simple when it comes to nations in the international community by simply telling the truth about what is going on, as opposed to making certain political actions for political gain, which may be misleading...In America, it's great that the civil war was fought to unite the US as a whole, because if not, there would be difficulty - for instance, my folks were both born in NYC, and shortly after they got married moved down to the south in Virginia, where I am the first-born son in the southern states. Good thing that the US wasn't still splintered off between the union and the confederacy, by the time my folks moved down here; otherwise, there would have been a difficult time moving across the border states (i.e. Maryland)...Since the US is not exactly a unified nation, given right wing and left wing points of views that go around, it is at least a free enough country to practice free will without a fascist or theocratic gov't. The current White House administration in power won't be around forever, which has a low approval rating thus far. Hence, it is great that we can choose who we want to run in a democracy (as long as the votes aren't tampered with). Therefore, given the free will that we have, we can exercise our rights freely, whereas not one way of thinking or theological tone fits everyone, which the Torah acknowledges.
