My little story
One day fairly recently, I was thinking, for no particular reason, about a book called "Number the Stars," a novel for children about the Holocaust in Denmark that I had read when I was younger. I'd been slowly working through the book of Psalms, and later that day I just so happened to read Psalm 147, which is the source of the book's title. Since then there have been several times when I happen to think of something, and it winds up showing up in some Bible portion or religious article I read.
God bless.

True Love
Mrs. Palatnik,
Once again you set us afire in a flurry of emotion and inspiration. But here's the thing. What we find stressed in the Torah is the mandate for us to fear and love Him. So if we're talking about the importance of love in the context of child-rearing, we want to devise strategies for imparting this element. For example, we might draw on the example of parents' love of child and vice versa to impress upon the child the nature of the love due to Hashem. This will set us and our children on the right path. You might think it's ironic that I, who hasn't yet married, should be expostulating on something like this. But I'm always on the look-out for a mate; so great things may yet happen, with Hashem's help. This notwithstanding, it is always such a treat to listen to you.

Reward in Heaven
I was touched by the video and the meaning behind it all.
I have to say that by doing just one mitzvah here on Earth , just to make someone smile, just to be a friendly ear or just to be there for someone is to be an angel and to be worthy of praise in Heaven. I have always beleived this to be true and try to instill this thought in my day to day life. Sometimes it is hard and it seems that there is no hope but just bt wathcing the video has given me an extra goal to strive for and I have to add that that was the most brilliant message I have heard for quite some time.
Thank you.

Yasher Kochech!
I concur with Benjamin! Kol hakavod, Lori. This was sooo beautiful and meaningful. You validate what I have believed for a long time. At a wedding or Bar-mitzva you hear people say, "Oh, too bad so & so couldn't live to see this." Well, I have always felt that the spirits of people who have left this world, surround chupahs and other major events...I really think they do "know". May we all perceive the opportunities presented us to do good deeds for the elevation of the souls of our ancestors.

The Weather
Mrs. Palatnik,
What you say about the world to come is very beautiful and inspiring. It offers a lot of solace for plain people (like me). But what makes you so sure that they don't know what's going on weather-wise down here? The weather, like most everything else, undoubtedly has a spiritual dimension. It impacts on how mitzvos are going to be performed, for example. So what reason is there to suppose that it lies beyond the sensing capacities of the departed who bask in the world to come? I don't pretend to know this myself; it is sheer speculation on my part. But to me it is by no means obvious that it is as you, so thoughtfully and feelingly, suggest. This, anyway, is my two cents. Be this as it may, you are very worth listening to.
Cordial blessings,
YP

question
The soul that we may be giving merit to when they are in "Heaven" may be in a new body on Earth....How does this work? How do you reconcile this with our belief in reincarnation?
Also, as an aside, 1)Many of us do not have the benefit of housekeepers,it is spoken of as a given, and 2) not all of us are housekeepers that aren't familiar with terms like "Nachas", many of us are Jewish people and many non-Jews all of different professions. I know this is obvious and you didn't mean it in any negative way, but this is read by many folks of different paths and unthought through comments like that perpetuate negative stereotypes.
Thank you for your usually enlightened and interesting messages.

Another Great Message
Once again Lori is able to capsulate a complicated, seemingly esoteric subject into a seemingly simple, relevant message. I look forward to these messages every week as a friendly "kick in the pants" and always feel better for taking the time and carrying the message with me through the day and thereafter. I also like how the past few weeks' blogs have a common thread so that the weekly messages are interconnected to deliver the Big Picture. Thanks!

My own Hashgacha story
This is amazing! Just yesterday I invited a friend to come over to break the fast. I wasn't sure that I really wanted to because her husband is an avowed atheist and I didn't belielve that she really fasted either. But, we're having guests with children the age of my younger child and I wanted someone to be here for my older child, so I invited my friend whose son is friendly with mine. It turned out, that her husband really does fast because a friend of his has invited them for 20 years to break the fast. He said that if he goes to her house, he must fast in order to participate in a break-fast dinner. Well, my friend informed me that they had just received an e-mail from that friend saying that for the first time in 20 years she was not going to host the dinner any more. And here, I was calling to invite them to break the fast!
